ー ニュージーランド初めての銀世界

先日、久しぶりに妻とリフレッシュ旅へ。向かったのはおなじみのテカポ…のはずが、まさかの大雪。行くかどうか最後まで迷ったけれど、行って本当によかった。

何度も訪れてきたテカポだけれど、一面の銀世界に包まれたあの景色は初めてで、思わず言葉を失うほど感動した。

ワナカの冬はなかなか手強いけれど、寒さに震えながらも、この美しい雪景色をできるだけ多くカメラに収めてこようと思う。

自然の一瞬一瞬が、心を動かしてくれる。

　
A world turned white – and a little winter adventure.

The other day, my wife and I took a much-needed break and headed to Lake Tekapo. We almost changed our plans when the forecast called for snow — but I’m so glad we went.

I’ve visited Tekapo many times, but this was the first time I saw it covered in snow. The entire town transformed into a breathtaking winter wonderland. It honestly left me speechless.

Winters in Wānaka can be tough, but even through the chill, I’ll keep chasing these fleeting moments — camera in hand — capturing New Zealand’s snowy beauty one frame at a time.

NZの先住民マオリ族の言葉でニュージーランドのことを「Aotearoa（アオテアロア）」 と呼ぶわけだけど、それは 「長い白い雲のたなびく国」を意味する。

　　
国の名前に「雲」が入るように、雲の表情が本当に豊かな国。だから同じ場所に行ったとしても、季節や時間帯によって見える景色が全然違ったりもするわけで。

　
ここを訪れるのは3回目だけど、また今までの2回とは全く異なる表情を見ることができた。やっぱり最高だね、ニュージーランド。

　
　
In the language of the indigenous Māori people of New Zealand, the country is called Aotearoa, which means “The Land of the Long White Cloud.”

Just as the name suggests, the skies here are incredibly expressive — the clouds constantly shift and change, giving the landscape a completely different feel depending on the season or time of day.

This is my third time visiting, but once again, I was greeted by a view unlike anything I’d seen on my previous two trips.
New Zealand truly never fails to amaze.

「モルゲンロート」とは、夜が明けきらない早朝に、東の空より一筋の赤い光線が山筋を照らし、山脈や雲が赤く染まる朝焼けのことを言う。山が最も美しく見えるときの１つで、「Morgen」は朝、「rot」は「赤」を意味するそう。
　
"Morgenrot" refers to the crimson glow that illuminates mountain ridges and clouds in the early morning, before the sun has fully risen. It's one of the most beautiful moments to witness in the mountains. In German, "Morgen" means "morning" and "rot" means "red."

ーBefore dawn on Isthmus Peak

ここ最近のマイブームは夜星空を見ながら山頂を目指し、サンライズを山頂で見る。もしくは夕方登り始めてサンセットを山頂で見る。日が昇り新しい１日が始まる様子や、逆に日が沈んで１日の終わりを迎える景色を見ていると、不思議と「地球に生かされている」という感覚が芽生えてくる。この感覚を味わえるだけで、すごく幸せだなと感じる今日この頃。

Lately, I’ve been hooked on hiking under the stars—either climbing through the night to catch the sunrise from the summit, or starting in the evening to watch the sun dip below the horizon.

There’s something magical about those moments.
Watching a new day begin… or quietly witnessing one come to an end. In those still, quiet hours, I feel it—like the Earth itself is holding me, reminding me I’m alive.

And honestly, that feeling alone makes everything worth it.

夕日が沈み、帰路に立とうとしたものの、風も全くないという好条件だったのでそのまま頂上にステイすることに。そして2時間が過ぎた頃、月が黄色ではなく赤に近いオレンジ色の光を放ちながら登り始めてきた。これからも世界中の美しい景色を求めて、写真を存分に楽しみたい。

As the sun set and I was about to head back, I decided to stay at the summit since the conditions were perfect—no wind at all. Two hours later, the moon began to rise, glowing not in yellow but in a deep orange, almost red. I want to keep seeking out the world’s most beautiful landscapes and fully enjoying photography.
