The track winds around Karangahake Mountain, passing old mine workings and tunnels like this one along the way.

It’s a beautiful walk and a much quieter alternative to some of the better-known tracks in the Gorge.

A familiar stretch of the Hauraki Rail Trail on the way to Paeroa. Hundreds of people pass through here every week, but on this evening the last of the sun filtering through the trees turned an ordinary corner of the track into something beautiful.

One of my favourite views in the Gorge.

I’ve walked across this bridge more times than I can count. Sometimes the tunnel is crystal clear, sometimes it’s filled with mist, and after dark it has a completely different feel.

That’s one of the things I love about this amazing place. It’s never quite the same twice.
