As the Christmas rush is over and I have shut down my computer for the year, it felt like the right time to say a big thank you to everyone who has supported Courtney Walklin Photography this year. Whether you booked a session, popped into a Pop-In, shared my work or simply followed along, it honestly means so much.

This year looked a little different for me behind the scenes, including taking on Pop-In Portraits here in Kaiapoi. After assisting Karla for four years, I’ve now stepped into running Kaiapoi Pop-Ins from my studio as part of the Eastwood Studios franchise. It’s been something new to learn and balance alongside my usual work, and a year of adapting as I go.

This year has very much felt like the end of a few eras in our family. Our eldest finished intermediate and our youngest finished preschool. Three at primary and one at high school is still a bit crazy to me. It’s been a lot of mental and emotional preparation for what’s ahead.

This week I traded my camera for the nail biting wait at the NZIPP Iris Professional Photography Awards judging.

I entered 4 images this year, the fewest I’ve ever submitted, and I’m stoked I walked away with 2 Silver Awards and 2 Bronze Awards🥈🥈🥉🥉
(one I won’t share for privacy reasons)
The Iris Awards are all about celebrating creativity, technical skill and storytelling. To have my work recognized among so many incredible photographers is amazing and honestly mind boggling.

It’s always nerve wracking putting your work out there but it pushes me to grow, try new things, and keep perfecting my craft for myself and my awesome clients. Maybe next year, I’ll be more organized and start editing before the week entries close!

Huge congrats to everyone who entered this year. The standard was insane!
