After being rained off last weekend, Ashburton Family Go Kart Club organised a race for this weekend instead.

A recent shipment of KiwiRails new Dm class locomotives were unloaded at the port in Timaru.

These locomotives were then trucked to a siding in the Timaru rail yard where they were transferred to the rail and towed north to Christchurch by a waiting locomotive.

Relic hunting on a damp West Coast day.

This is the remains of Robey 936, a twin cylinder portable steam engine built in 1865. It is located at the end of the Larry's Creek Track near Reefton, having been left behind after a failed attempt to access the Caledonian Gold Reef in 1906.

Industrial Heritage

This is part of the old ropeway that once took coal from the still operational Stockton Mine to the rail head at Ngakawau. The majority of the ropeway is now defunct and coal is trucked to the hill above Ngakawau where it is transferred to the ropeway and then delivered to the coal stockpile below.

Like an Ent from Lord of the Rings, you can head to Karamea and see our own walking tree.

I was kind of lucky to get any photo of the tree as by the time I arrived the sun had already set and it was quite dark, which required a 1.6 second exposure.
