Words can’t express how deep our ocean of gratitude flows for the love, support, touching words and gestures our family has received in the wake of losing Don. Our love flows right back 💛

We’d love for you to join us in Gisborne this weekend to farewell our father, husband, brother, son, colleague, teacher and friend.

We warmly invite you to join us in celebrating his beautiful life in a service at the House of Breakthrough on Saturday 25th of March at 11am.

In keeping with Dad’s nature, we secured the biggest venue that we could so that we can welcome as many as we can with open arms. The service will also be live streamed online for those who aren’t able to make it.

On the following Sunday 26th, we also invite you to join us alongside Dad’s beloved surf community in a paddle-out at Makorori Beach, beginning 12pm, to remember and honour Don in his element.

In both cases, bring an open heart and your brightest Hawaiian shirt. Dad would love you to be there.

💛

✨ 25/11/1962 – 18/03/2023 ✨

From the family — We are heartbroken to share that we lost our humble, loving patriarch Donald Evan Pearson, on Saturday afternoon at 61 years young.

Many will testify to what a phenomenal dude dad was and the impact he had in the many different communities and roles that he dedicated himself to throughout his life. We know that this loss will be felt deeply across a wide spectrum of hearts and minds right now.

We’re finding comfort in knowing dad spent his final moments very much in his happy place, frothing about in the waves, drenched in 100% pure Makorori salt water, and surrounded by his closest friends and fellow loggers, who we want to especially acknowledge for their loving care for dad on his last day here with us. Thank you so much 💛

We’ll be sharing details later about the ways we plan to celebrate and memorialise our beloved goofball, but for now we just wanted to open this space to share our stories and our love for The Donz.

We know there’ll be a lot of people out there in need of support, a hug, a coffee, a beer or a chat in the midst of what happened on Saturday so please look out for your mates right now, just like Dad would do.

Due to supply interruptions following the recent cyclone No 8 Lowe Street Butchery is having trouble accessing all that high quality free-range meat he gets from his usual sources. As a result the No.8 butcher shop is currently closed more than usual, which means ….more surfing time …which means two things for us: less meat and less waves !
But it’s always a pleasure to watch and photograph Trent surfing, so I’m not really complaining 😉

There were more nervous moments last night as yesterday’s rain became heavier. We awoke to localised flooding and once again had that dreaded feeling of ‘Here we go again’. But fortunately it was quite minor compared to recent weather events. The weather over the past year has been quite depressing and over the past month just so devastating for this region. People are tiring and starting to despair. But when ya feel that you are starting to hit rock bottom, there’s only one way …and that’s 🆙
This quote by Martin Luther King is encouraging, as is the rainbow - the ancient Biblical symbol of HOPE 🌈
