Night sky taken from Makorori, Gisborne.
It was a New Moon with a perfectly dark sky tonight, providing a crystal-clear view of the Milky Way core over the coast. My 15-second exposure captured a lot of satellites , but the absolute highlight is that brilliant, colorful vertical streak, which is a real meteor from the active meteor shower burning up in our atmosphere.

Caught the Milky Way core glowing brightly before the moon rose to wash it out. It was a freezing cold winter night, but standing on the beach steps watching the universe put on a show made it completely worth the chill.
