This year I’ve made the decision not to attend the Victorian celebrations in Oamaru as a photographer.
In previous years, as with this year, I’ve been invited to come along and take pictures of events, and the people attending them.
And I’ve done so for many many years now, but it’s just not financially viable year on year to turn up to events with no guaranteed income, where there are actual costs involved, and no promise of a return on investment.
My business is not a charity.
I am not a charity.
So, I’ve chosen this year to only work with those willing to respect my craft, and pay for my services accordingly.
If you want free, grab your cellphone and use that. But remember that decision when you’re figuring out how to print to that large sized frame you want to go on the hallway wall, or when asking why your printed image looks so blurry or pixelated.
If you want free, I am not your man.
If you need quality and well planned and executed portraiture then I absolutely remain committed to continuing to deliver on that for you. I just won’t be doing it for the free publicity.
