Scott Family New Zealand Adventure

Scott Family New Zealand Adventure In December of 2012, our family of 4 - Mom and 3 kids, headed 'home' to NZ for the first time in 14 1/2 years. The memories of that trip will last a lifetime.

This journey was as much about seeing their homeland and discovering their heritage as it was about seeing family. Cousins who have grown up not knowing each other bonded instantly. Things my kids never quite understood (being raised by NZ parents) suddenly made sense. It is likely the last time we will travel back to NZ together. It was so easy to call NZ home - if you find references to 'home' c

onfusing - its because while we live at home, our hearts will always be kiwi hearts. We too are confused.

Our last full day.. we took a trip to Piha. A place dear to me, and full of stories that Granny was able to tell the kids of their Dads childhood. And, our last chance to dip our toes in the water down under.

The rain may have made things a little damp outside, but spirits were high as we celebrated family. The first time my siblings and I were all together in over 23 years.

Our day started when we got off the Ferry at 4 am.. after a couple of hours sleep and just a little sightseeing we found ourselves parked in Auto Parts parking lot with AA.. who after telling us we wouldn't be leaving town, managed to repair our car to get us back to Hamilton, and family, for Christmas. Thank you Chris, our favorite AA guy.

After a day of rain, a day of sun and almost clear blue skies. We continued up the west coast, then inland to Motueka to visit my friend Maria, whom we met when we arrived in Texas. And her family of sheep, alpacas and a cat (and hubby).

Chris started the day with a hike up the mountain - and the 'red in morning' certainly was a warning. Beginning to rain as we broke camp, it quickly became a West Coast rainstorm. Miserable. Too misty to see the glaciers, too wet to get out and about, too miserable for any exploring.
