Now this is a tough post to write… and honestly, one I thought I’d never have to make. But yet, here we are!
This photo of my darling wee girl popped up in my memories today, and it feels so timely. Back then, I’d been in business for almost a year - fresh off the boat, feeling very flash with my Canon entry-level SLR. I had no idea what I was doing, but I had all the enthusiasm in the world to give it a bloody good go!
12 years later, I sit in my studio, looking around at all that I’ve achieved, and I feel so damn proud. I’ve photographed hundreds of babies, families, and (more recently) a fair few pooches around Christchurch. I’ve made beautiful friendships, met incredible people, and … if I do say so myself … got pretty good at this photography gig 🤭
But after much thought, I’ve decided it’s time to close this chapter and focus on other things in my life. So, I’m letting you know that Photography by Karla will be closing its doors at the end of 2025.
If you already have a shoot booked, nothing changes - it’s business as usual! If you have a gift card, please get in touch so we can make sure those photos happen. My weekends are almost full until the end of the year, but with daylight savings here, midweek sessions are definitely an option.
This isn’t goodbye just yet … more of a gentle heads-up 🥰

Found this beautiful patch of bluebells in Hagley Park today so took a few snaps of my daughter to share - I would highly recommend for some family photos! I am going to be honest here and say that this photo was the best of a very bad bunch. Why is it that I can make everyone else's children do what I want except for my own?? :)
