Anna and I went out for the first time this year to shoot some astro! There was a shot I've had planned for a while that as the year has progressed, I've missed my opportunity. As a result I doctored the first photo, into the second photo, I call it Akaroa Lies since I'm not a fan of doing that. Just means I'll have to go again next year a little bit earlier!

I haven't posted much of anything lately, but this week I stayed in Kaikoura during an almost full moon and took the same panorama that I did last time I was there. The only difference with these shots is the moon. In fact, the darker moonless shot had an exposure time of 12 seconds more than the moon shot.

Went for a wee drive up Godley Head last night for the second night in a row, first night saw an owl! Second night saw a beautiful sunset. I only have photographic evidence of one.

I havent shot any astro lately, but I went for a day trip to Kaikoura the other day to check out the new roads. Town is booming! Played around with photoshop on this one. Maybe i should be on the kaikoura marketing team!😉

Its been a while since I've posted anything here, but last night I ended up staying in Kaikoura and took my opportunity! Holy crap it was exciting, which isnt usually the case when standing in the cold and dark. I saw the longest and brightest fireball I'd ever seen, it even gave me time to drop my jaw, stand there frozen with all my hairs standing on end, and then finally work out that I need to move my camera and snap a photo of the last 2 seconds of it! But right before I turned in at 1am I took one shot straight out to sea and I couldnt believe how much airglow showed up on the camera. So i set to work shooting a 36 frame panorama and I'm bloody stoked with it to be honest. The colours arent exactly as bright and vivid as that to the eye but thats the beauty of technology! Anyway heres my image, looking from the road works to the left, around to the orange glow of Kaikoura over the hill.

"The Rainbow Connection"

I found this spot with the help of my defacto location scout James Savage, and bloody what a spot!
This is up in the port hills looking down over Lyttelton to the left, and Christchurch to the right. My first attempt at a full milkyway arch. Had a few teething problems but figured most of them out in the end after almost running my computer to the ground.. I think it deserves a beer.

Made a little trip out to Frog Rock last night. Who would have thought I'd struggle to get a gap in traffic to take an actual fully dark shot. Bit of a plan changer, rock scrambler of a night!

Lyttelton Harbour.
From the same night and spot as my original Diamond Harbour shot. Put this pano together tonight.
Lyttelton port is so incredibly bright. Did what I could do bring it down a few notches.

Panoramic HDR, bit of experimentation there, I think it turned out well!

Went for a little drive out to the mountains with Anna Gilbert sat night. Faffed around with the tripod trying to make a large pano which included a few mistakes and a learning curve. Couple of nice shots came from the night though. Unfortunately the one I want to like the most, wasnt focused on the stars and I was waving round like one of those inflatable men outside a tyre shop.

Last Saturday, I headed out to Halswell and happened to have my camera on me. This is the weekend right after that first real chance of snow in Chch. Didnt quite happen but the mountains were looking amazing!
