another beautiful and different day at Mt Elliot... low base, nearly full cloud cover, gentle climbs and even a little convergence to climb along the cloud edge...

no task yet for the comp... we are all crossing our fingers that the weather plays nicely for the end of this week!

The corryong open has now finished! I came 31st overall, which is pretty much mid pack, but I managed to make goal twice...

The corryong open has now finished! I came 31st overall, which is pretty much mid pack, but I managed to make goal twice out of the three tasks, which I'm really happy with! It was quite full on at times so I wasn't taking many pictures... spending too much time concentrating!

yesterday was the 'practise day' for our second comp - a sports class (max C class gliders) comp.. and whilst in theory that seems easier, it's still all the same awesome pilots just flying different wings!

there's a big contingent of kiwi pilots here for this comp, so looking forward to good camaraderie, and likely more competition!

doesn't really matter, tomorrow is another day; strong thermals forecast with a bit of wind around, so fingers crossed we can get up in the air and enjoy this incredible life!

day 1 of the corryong open 2026... a bit of a shock to the system opening the comp with a 98.5 km task, leaving me a bit apprehensive whether I'd make it round before dark, assuming I could complete the task at all!

got high, got low... and finally made it over the final ridge with the goal field in sight and on a good glide! last in to goal, at 6.15, with 45 minutes left in the task!

Tasks 3 & 4 of the NZ Paragliding Nationals were both from Inwoods - a particularly well-named site, given all the forestry!

Two great tasks (that I didn't do particularly well at in either, but you gotta keep practising... and maybe get in the air earlier!

Still loving my Delta5; hard work to carry up the hill but sooo nice in the air!

In a week and a half I'm heading to Corryong, Australia, for a couple more competitions, so finger's crossed the weather plays nicely again!

Back in Christchurch now for a couple of weeks before heading up to Nelson for the New Zealand Paragliding Nationals :)
