Some more Barn Owls from May 27th but added some spectacular "Eye of Sauron" sunset pictures just because the effect of the sun through the hole in the clouds was great to see.

Tomorrow Ill be dropping some more Barn Owl pics which were taken at sunset and were as close as to the shot I have been trying to get so far.

I'm currently testing a Canon RF 2x extender on my R6 Mk3 and pairing it with either an RF 70-200 F2.8 or the RF 100-500 F4.5 to F7.1, thanks to Perry Andrews for the loan. on my first wander out, this Wren decided to be very cooperative and hung around within 10-15 feet... good fun... lots of photos.

The challenge with the extender is that it reduces the min aperture to F11@600 mm and F14@1000mm. All of the images were taken at 1/3200. The lowest ISO was 5000 on the first photo but the rest were between 6400 and 12800.Not all of the images had noise reduction applied and image processing was minimal.

A quick trip out to Abberton Reservoir near Colchester on Sunday to see if we could see the Spoonbills nesting.... We were lucky to see these Great Crested Grebes. Not the sharpest pictures and video in the world but these are heavy crops of images taken hand held at 700 mm.... More to follow!

I love Piwakawaka / NZ Fan Tails. They are not shy and love to harass you when you are walking through the woods. I managed to capture these the other day and thought to make a single shot of it flitting about. It was quite dark and the camera's ISO was fixed at 12800 which was still too low, but I think they came OK.

Popped over to the Whitecliffs Reserve this morning to check on our local Ruru population, top up some bait stations and check on some traps... The Rurus were very obliging and posed in a few locations for me. The three in one were taken a couple of weeks ago.
