A rainy visit to this once-charming Auckland Spanish Colonial influence home. The arched openings now boarded up and overtaken by vines give the structure a grand, almost romantic decay.
Broken glass and collapsed sections reflect years of neglect. Nature has slowly reclaimed the structure with lush grass wild plants and creeping vines overtaking the grounds.. Nathan

The old girl needs our support more then ever after the recent events that saw large amounts of theft & serious damage to the roof which has now sadly lead to internal water damage. I remember years ago asking a past patient from Lake Alice Psychiatric Hospital (1970's I believe) to draw me a diagram of the Maximum secure unit and what he remembered, we conversed by email for almost 2 years till his brother randomly messaged me announcing he had passed away, This is what he sent me. He always told me it was nothing but a prison.

Lake Alice was the reason I started Urbex NZ and explore today, it set my foundations. For me Urbex wasn't just about the abandoned building, it was about the history and people affected.

I personally never posted any photos from our 2014 visit's to New Plymouth Power Station, we made a few wild late night visits, slept in our car nearby (grumpy Nathan the next morning) looking back I would have just stayed over in the Power Station, for the giggles. But getting to be the first ones to explore this place once it was finally decommissioned, was really like a dream coming true. Such a massive complex and all still remaining intact with power. Nothing has compared since, theirs something exciting about exploring a place knowing someone in your family helped contributing to building it. I love history and can't help but always research enthralling places I go, to make it that much more special.
