Last week, our children celebrated World Animal Day with a series of hands-on, animal-themed activities! The children explored the animal kingdom through creative play, sensory experiences, and artistic expression.

Here are the key highlights from our week of wild adventures:

🦁 Animal Face Painting & Masks: Children transformed into their favorite creatures, using face paint and handmade masks to role-play as roaring lions, playful puppies, and bouncing bunnies.

🌊 Splish, Splash Animal Baths: In our sensory water play area, the children took on the role of caring veterinarians and zookeepers, using sponges, soap, and brushes to give our toy wildlife a thoroughly scrubbing bath.

🎨 Creature Crafts: We got messy with arts and crafts, creating textured animal portraits using faux fur, feathers, and recycled materials to learn about different animal coats.

🐘 Wildlife Storytime: The group gathered for interactive reading sessions focused on animal habitats, kindness to creatures great and small, and the importance of protecting our planet's wildlife.

🇨🇳 Chinese Language Week 🇨🇳

Our tamariki enjoyed exploring Chinese Language Week through a range of fun and engaging learning experiences. Children participated in a Chinese tea set-up, exploring pretend play and learning about Chinese traditions and customs. They also enjoyed Chinese-themed art activities, including colouring the Chinese flag and creating their own artwork.

Tamariki had lots of fun learning and practising Chinese dance movements, using music and movement to express themselves and develop confidence. These experiences encouraged children to explore another culture, language and traditions while supporting curiosity, creativity, communication and respect for diversity.

It was wonderful to see our tamariki showing enthusiasm and interest as they celebrated and learned about Chinese culture together. 🌏❤️

💦 Learning about water safety at Creative Garden Mangere! 💦

Our tamariki had a special visit from Onehunga Swimming School, who joined us for an important conversation about swimming and staying safe around water.

The children learned about the importance of having a trusted adult with them around water, as well as how swimming lessons can help build confidence and important water safety skills.

It was a fun and valuable learning experience, helping our tamariki become more aware of how they can enjoy the water safely. 🏊‍♀️

A big thank you to the team at Onehunga Swimming School for visiting us and sharing these important lessons!

Last week was filled with outdoor learning, creativity and connection 💛

Our tamariki explored the world of ocean animals during mat time in the sandpit, sharing their ideas and learning more about different sea creatures.

There was plenty of movement and laughter with a game of Duck, Duck, Goose, giving tamariki a fun way to practise listening, turn-taking and playing together. We also explored “Superhero Breaths” - a simple and engaging way to introduce calming strategies and support self-regulation.

Another special activity saw tamariki using leaves, sticks, stones and other natural materials to create different emotions, including happy, sad and angry faces. Through creativity and conversation, they were able to explore how different feelings can look and how we can express them.

A lovely week of learning through play, building friendships and exploring big feelings together. 🌿

Celebrating Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori 🇳🇿

This week, our tamariki have enjoyed meaningful opportunities to explore te reo Māori, tikanga and culture through play, creativity and conversation.

During mat time, tamariki explored Māori artefacts and incorporated te reo Māori into songs and everyday conversations. Our dramatic play area became a space for pretend hāngī preparation, while our creative experiences included making beautiful korowai feathers.

These experiences support our tamariki to develop a strong sense of belonging, identity and connection to Aotearoa, while learning through play alongside their friends and kaiako. ❤️

Last week our tamariki have been busy celebrating the special fathers and father figures in their lives in preparation for Father’s Day.

The children enjoyed taking part in a range of Father’s Day activities, creating special gifts and engaging in meaningful experiences to show their love and appreciation.

One of the highlights of the week was our baking activity, where the children enthusiastically helped to prepare delicious treats. They enjoyed exploring the ingredients, mixing, and participating in the baking process alongside their teachers and friends.

To finish our celebrations, we held a special Father’s Day Afternoon Tea. It was wonderful to welcome fathers and father figures into our centre and celebrate the important role they play in the lives of our tamariki. The children were excited to share this special occasion with their loved ones and enjoy quality time together.

Thank you to all the fathers and father figures who joined us. We hope you enjoyed the special afternoon and felt appreciated for being such wonderful role models in our tamariki’s lives. 💙
