Observe,
Georgia, what a pro.😍
This was the only image I deemed worthy out of a photography workshop in 2018.
I got to the head of the queue and stepped up, looked at Georgia and quoted a friend of mine. With my camera ready I said to her, "I don't do happy" and clicked.
This is what she gave me

The photographic master Henri Cartier-Bresson made some key observations about photography, arguably the most famous being “the decisive moment”, which reads in part, and in closing: "...inside movement there is one moment at which the elements in motion are in balance. Photography must seize upon this moment and hold immobile the equilibrium of it."
This image from the Christhcurch Colour Festival 2018 continues to be one of my personal favourites. I believe it ito be as close as I have got to "the decisive moment". The way she breaks the near horizontal line of heads, The way that, out of all those faces, hers are the only eyes you can find. She can't help but hold your attention.
All I had to do was click! :D

Abandoned Dreams
One of my most popular images to date. This was created amongst the debris of an abandoned theatre in Christchurch. I can't tell you what the inspiration was for this, I saw the piano lying amongst a pile of rubble and just decided.. "It needs a yellow rose..."

With many life changes taking place in a short space of time I found myself presented with the opportunity to re-visit my earlier photo's. A few more years experience composing and editing my images I'm finding many older images are worth another look. This is one of a series of Brydee I took in 2018.
No re-editing involved in this one. :)

During his two years at Orana Park, Charlie the orangutan was a poignant figure of quiet intelligence and profound solitude. Confined within his concrete and glass enclosure, the world outside was a mere spectacle. Charlie the orangutan was one of three orangutans transferred from Auckland Zoo to Orana Wildlife Park in 2017 for a two-year stay while Auckland Zoo built a new habitat for its orangutans. He was part of a collaboration between Auckland Zoo and Orana Wildlife Park and has since returned to Auckland Zoo to live in the new, state-of-the-art habitat. Charlie is a living symbol of the complex ethical landscape surrounding captive wildlife, a dignified being whose very existence speaks volumes about loss and resilience.

The New Zealand Tūī is a remarkable and iconic bird, instantly recognizable by its iridescent blue-green and bronze plumage and the striking white throat tufts (poi) it proudly displays. A member of the honeyeater family, it is a vital pollinator for many native plants.

Famed for its complex and melodious song, the Tūī is a masterful vocalist. It possesses a unique double voice box, allowing it to produce an incredible array of clicks, cackles, creaks, and bell-like notes. It is also a skilled mimic, often incorporating the calls of other species into its repertoire.

Though once threatened, Tūī are now a common sight in forests, suburbs, and gardens across the North, South, and offshore islands, their energetic and territorial nature making them a lively and beloved part of Aotearoa's soundscape.

The Kea, the world's only alpine parrot, is a renowned New Zealand icon. This large, intelligent, and olive-green bird is famous for its bold, curious, and mischievous nature. Native to the South Island's mountains, Keas are renowned for their playful investigations, often using their powerful, curved beaks to explore backpacks, shoes, and even the rubber trim on cars. Their remarkable problem-solving skills and complex social structures fascinate scientists. While endearing, this curiosity also leads them into conflict, classifying them as a threatened species. The Kea is a truly unique and charismatic symbol of New Zealand's wild high country.
