"The chance to be part of THIS happens briefly. the invitation is not to show how inventive and imaginative you are, but how much you can notice what you're already part of. And appreciate it and share it. And care about those that are around you and look out for for their welfare while you are looking out for your own.  that's it." - Burgs food for thought. I’ve slept in some really weird places. Often, the most beautiful nights out have been the least expected. And the most memorable have often involved zero actual sleep. Bus stops. Airports. Tiny ledges. Sidewalks. Under boulders. Exposed ridges. I’ve also noticed a profound link between depression and anxiety and lack of sleep/sleep deprivation. It’s a chicken and egg scenario and often I don’t know which precipitates the other. What I do know, is when I’m not sleeping, my mental wellness takes a dive. From Harvard “Chronic sleep problems affect 50% to 80% of patients in a typical psychiatric practice, compared with 10% to 18% of adults in the general U.S. population. Sleep problems are particularly common in patients with anxiety, depression, bipolar, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)” I’ve battled through this in a number ways from sleeping pills to meditation, and finally with CBD. Of course, not all CBD is created equal. 70% of CBD products aren’t labeled correctly so navigating products is tricky. While ongoing research is providing insights into the neurochemical ‘how’, what’s clear is that CBD does help with some chronic sleep issues and likely has an observable positive impact on anxiety and other psychiatric dysregulation that is tied to sleep deprivation. I’m so excited for my friends and on the release of their new film! THE RESCUE tells the against-all-odds story of the 2018 rescue of 12 boys and their soccer coach from deep inside a flooded cave in Northern Thailand. THE RESCUE shines a light on the astounding courage and compassion of the rescuers, and the shared humanity of the international community that united to save the boys. In theaters October 8. www.therescue.film

Only 24 hours left to join the 12 week ALL-FEMALE training group from . Uphill Athelete is the training program I used for some of my biggest goals and accomplishments and I couldn't be more excited that they are offering a course coached by women for women. Some of the strongest partners I've ever had in the mountains were women, and yet the vast majority of training for mountain sports ignores the unique physiology, challenges, and strengths of female athletes. Only a few spots left. I highly recommend grabbing them while they are available. More information at link in bio.

Humbled, honored, and so excited to share the new limited edition release of the Overseas Everest watches! In 2019, I had the distinct honor of helping design and ultimately wear the prototype of this timepiece while attempting an unclimbed route on Everest.

For so many years, climbing was my primary vehicle of exploration, both internal and external. The mirrored confluence of creativity, refinement and craftsmanship that all exploration shares with timepieces has always struck me. The individual components must work seamlessly, or the system fails. For me, projects like this that reflect those elements and principles are the most meaningful expressions of dual passions. I am so grateful for everyone and everything that brought this to life. Thank you!

From nyctherapy.com // "In 2015, psychologist and art therapist Dr. Cathy Malchiodi cited multiple studies confirming that being creative can increase positive emotions, lessen depressive symptoms, reduce stress, decrease anxiety, and even improve immune system functioning." In short, being creative is good for your mental health and overall well-being. I know when I am creative, I am at my best. The action of making lends clarity through the increasing barrage of distraction in our world. with

'Romance' is an image from a new creative project titled 'American Dream' that explores the blindness of everything we do from relationships, love, and passion, gender roles, sexual identity, and even gun violence. This ongoing visual fiction follows a couple on their journey of discovery of the american dream with mordant commentary on our social programming and 'designated' roles in culture and society.

So much gratitude for my creative partner and co-conspirator on this journey who shares an equal role of shooting, conceptual design, and art direction.

Loba women of Mustang stand for a portrait in traditional clothing set against the modern footings of a new structure, part of ongoing development in the region. For this assignment for I wanted to juxtapose what was against what is in surprising ways that would help illustrate the immediacy of the change taking place. Much of the development is badly needed and provides access to resources previously unavailable or incredibly hard to reach. But with development come the hurdles of cultural erosion and the loss of cultural identity. No easy answers, but lots of good questions.

Back at it!! Welcome back to Great article by on this springs expedition and the resultant debate regarding mental health. I thought this article was beautifully articulated and well thought out. For so many, speaking openly about mental health is difficult if not seemingly impossible. This article was a fair and insightful look at the complexity mental health issues present. Nothing about the topic is 'easy', but the more conversation we have, the further down the road we get. Some of the provided commentary stings a bit, but I'm also understanding of it. If anything, it only underscores the uphill battle mental health as an issue faces. I've spoken openly and at length for years as an advocate for mental health and wellness, and I believe this article is a fabulous deepening of that journey. Thanks and for the effort and research. Link in bio for the whole article.
