Nilkantha Wood Craft A Bhaktapur family Nilkantha Woodcarving is the family business of Indra Kaji Shilpakar and his son Indra Prasad.

This family have been practicing Tradiational Newari Woodcarving for countless generations and their last name literally translates to shi-wood and kar-artist. Indra Kaji, 49, has been carving since the age of 12. Creating intricate and delicate three dimensional images of Hindu and Buddhist deities as well as numerous renovation works of ancient temples and buildings in Nepal. Indra Prasad, 30, h

as been working under his father for the past 12 years and has recently completed is Bachelor in fine art. He is extremely proud of his fathers work and continues to strive to make a name for himself as a contemporary woodcarver whilst remaining true to the ideals his fathers before him have set. The family have recently constructed a traditional Newari house on their small plot of land and hope to host visitors to Bhaktapur for short and long term stays. The home is in a beautiful location and the home is well equipped to host up to 4 people. For over 36 years, Cross Nilkantha Wood Craft has been dedicated to preserving and celebrating traditional heritage. The company was founded by my father, Indra Kaji Shilpakar. Our work primarily focuses on heritage projects, including the reconstruction and renovation of UNESCO World Heritage sites, as well as wood carving commissioned works for private collections.
