SIKALI JATRA 2083

As the October skies preludes the hint of winter air, the entire country of Nepal is on the verge of Dashain celebration - the grandest and biggest festival of the country. But about 10kms far from the core of the capital, at the south lies the countryside village of Khokana (also the mustard oil capital of the nation).

Surprisingly for many visitors, two things stand out of this village - Dashain is never celebrated and chicken meat is prohibited here. The entire village is engaged in celebrating the Rudrayani Devi (Ajima, the guardian goddess of this village.
The celebration lasts about a week with grand celebration at Sikali Devi (one of the sister of goddess Dakshinkali) Temple located at Sikali Chaur, Khokana.

People are seen dressed in various deities for masked dance and pooja procession.

In Nepal, we have a term called 'Terai ko Sunset (Sunset at Terai Plains)', that sunset just hits different. The view is endless at the horizons and wide fields unlike at the captical city that bids farewell among high buildings, foothills and surrounding mountains. This picture was shot just moments after clicking -001.
