Sindur Jatra, vibrant festival of devotion and culture in Nepal
Sindur Jatra is one of the most colorful and culturally rich festivals celebrated in Madhyapur Thimi during the Nepali New Year, alongside the famous Biska Jatra. This unique festival is known for its striking use of vermilion powder (sindur), which devotees smear on each other as a symbol of joy, prosperity, and communal harmony. Halchowk Bhairav Jatra – Kathmandu, Nepal 🎭

Halchowk Bhairav Jatra is a powerful yet lesser-known cultural celebration held at the sacred Halchowk Bhairav Temple on the western edge of Kathmandu. Dedicated to Bhairav, the festival represents strength, protection, and divine energy.

Set on a small hill, the temple offers a peaceful yet spiritually intense environment. During the jatra, devotees gather in large numbers to offer prayers, seeking protection, success, and courage. The rituals include traditional puja (worship), masked dances, and vibrant local participation, sometimes including animal offerings.

Unlike larger festivals like Biska Jatra or Seto Machindranath Jatra, this jatra feels more raw and authentic, giving a deeper glimpse into true Newari traditions without heavy tourist influence.
