Hello Everyone!

We want to thank the tremendous amount of support and all the positive feedback for our documentary about Hvaldimir (A tale of a whale - Hvaldimir's journey in Norway).

There is such a significant interest in this documentary. We are amazed and pleased that people are eager to learn about Hvaldimir.

Many people have reached out to us asking if it would be possible to add subtitles.

We spent the last two weeks working on this request, and now I can happily inform everyone that, as a first:
English subtitle is available for the documentary!

The transcript is under translation already into French and German. There are a lot of tourists from Germany during the summertime in Norway.

However, we think that the most important would be to have it translated into Norwegian.
We are already working on the Norwegian translation as well.

However, if someone would like to volunteer some time to help Hvaldimir and us, we could use some help with the Norwegian translation :)
Please drop an email to [email protected] or a DM on FB if you want to help.

We are looking forward to hearing from you guys!
Please continue to share this documentary far and wide.
Thru education, we can make Hvaldimir's life better

26th of January – ANOTHER FEEDING

The past 2 days have been stormy again (January weather :D), but today finally we got to go out.

We did not have big expectations, though we knew there are still orcas in the area, thanks to a set-up permanent hydrophone (thank you Brigitte and Adrian

HERRING HOUR

Given the fact that today is already the 22nd of January today, we remained absolutely speechless.

From the moment we found the orcas in the morning until the end of the day feeding was going on in several locations.

The water was boiling from herring and the orcas and humpback whales that surrounded them.

The animals were feeding naturally and even though, it is unusual there is a LOT of herring in the fjord for this time of the year.

We have not seen this many lunge-feeding humpback whales in November….

Our boat (we were alone) was just floating (engine off) in the middle of the feeding and looked at them totally amazed…

We have met some old friends today as well.

A young male, called Stripy (NKW-457 – he has markings in his saddle patch), whose fin last year was still just halfway upright has grown a LOT in just a year and by now his dorsal fin looks fully grown.

We have also met a female, who has been seen in the area every year in the past 6 years. Frøya, (NKW -0607).

It's very rewarding to see all these familiar fins around

BABIES

Today, after another 3 days on land with heavy storms, we finally had a chance to get out at sea.

I was curious if we will find anything in the morning…However, despite the fact, that is already the 19th of January the fjord is still full of life.

There were at least 3-4 separate reports of orcas in the surrounding area, and we also found a pod, with at least 12-15 individuals.

It was a big swell coming in from the west and when we found “our” pod, we spent the day together with them, they were just slowly cruising around.

There were several females together with their calves in the group and they really enjoyed riding the big waves.

One female was in a very peaceful mood, and she was just floating on the surface waiting for a big wave to move her forwards 😊 She did that multiple times 😊

We have also encountered 2 humpback whales towards the end of the day.

We are so happy to report that the animals are still around, which means there are still herring in the fjords.

Tomorrow is again going to be a day onshore, but we are crossing our fingers for sightings over the weekend.

This January has quite heavy weather with a lot of rain and snow!

All photos have been taken on the 19th of January 2022.

Enjoy!
