Jæren isn’t just soft fields and sea air.
Fotlandfossen cuts through that calm with force.
No drama, just presence.

Fotlandfossen isn’t hidden — it doesn’t need to be.
Set among Jæren’s fields and tied to an old mill, the place carries its past in the current.
This is how early autumn sounds in inland Rogaland.

No drama, no filter — just wind, sand, and light folding into the sea.

The noise fades out here.
Sørmarka dressed in its autumn coat — a tangle of gold, rust, and quiet.
Rogaland’s overlooked woodland gem.

You don’t stumble across Kvassheim.
You follow the coast, let the wind slap your face, and when the road ends — there it is.
The southernmost lighthouse of Jæren.

Varhaug gamle kirkegård (old cemetary) is a cemetary that's sited in mouth of the North Sea at the farm Varhaug in Hå municipality in the county of Rogaland. The cemetary is dates back to the middle ages, around 13th. century BC. Around that time the first church was erected there, and there is much that points to that it was built on top of a heathen site of worship. Several different churches have been built on the cemetary grounds up through the ages. The old church was demolished in 1905, and the a new church was erected at Odland.
Just off the coast here, there was a shipwreck in 1842 that claimed 389 Russian lives. Most were buried in Varhaug old cemetery that is listed. It is also erected a memorial to the Russians and the "sjøfolk som her fikk sin grav (sailors who here made his grave) " in 1966.

Tucked away in Gjesdal, Holmaholen isn’t loud — it doesn’t need to be.
Found this quiet waterfall on an August afternoon. Just me, the moss, and the sound of falling water.

Jæren, still stripped bare.
But look closer—
a graveyard windswept by salt air,
waterfalls hiding in plain sight,
a beach that doesn’t beg for postcards,
a forest holding its breath.

Tungenes Lighthouse, Randaberg
The original. A white wooden watchtower at land’s end.
It’s more than a beacon—it’s memory.
Summertime lingers in the breeze,
but the bones are built for winter storms.
Quiet now, but never forgotten.

Tungenes, Randaberg
Not the postcard lighthouse.
This is the real one—the modern beacon that still works, still warns, still burns.
Sunset lit it like a flame,
casting fire over sea and stone.
Proof that function doesn’t need fame to hold beauty.

Frafjord, Gjesdal
Same gorge, different view.
No waterfall in frame—
just the spray rising,
a ghost of the force below.
Caught in it, a rainbow: brief, bending, barely there.
Proof that even in stone and shadow, light finds a way.

Månafossen, Gjesdal
April, but spring hasn’t arrived.
The land’s still bare, brittle.
The falls at Mån crash into the gorge below,
a raw force in a sleeping landscape.
Unbothered by the calendar.
