A Lighthouse next to
My wife and I had a lovely time along the coastal line of Sweden on our 15th wedding anniversary. We spent the night at Varberg kusthotell (coastal hotel directly translated), an amazing hotel, giving me the feeling of existing in a place outside of time. The interior was classical and modern, with a peaceful vibe. Lots of earth colors and a staff that matched in their welcoming and unpretentious approach. It was such a needed time off from the stress of our lifestyle as it has developed these days.
This image is shot through a pinhole created with the Nikon lens cap and a tinfoil pinned with a needle. This time I forgot to take off the tape covering the hole. It’s there to minimize the amount of dust finding its way through the narrow needle hole. This fortunate mishap led me to finding yet another way of shooting with alternative objects in front of my sensor. I am always finding myself wanting to get away from the digital cleanliness of files. They feel dead to a certain extent. It just feels like a utopia of megapixels where uniqueness is vanished. I am a trained photographer, often it feels as if it’s a burden rather than a skill. When I shoot, I try to convey an emotion instilled in my being. The technicality is a filter I can use to convey it, but sometimes the technicality feels to limit the emotions as well. It all becomes a search for the perfect, but what is perfect? Behind the layers of objects, filters, and lenses I try to convey meaning. As if it is all a language in which I speak through. Reality is blurred in semantics, and my language is blurred as well. Yet I hope it somehow gives you something to connect with, and with that we both walk on stronger, more enlightened, empathetic, or somehow touched by the brief meeting with one another. My images are my stories, emotions, and dreams. I love sharing them, yet when I write, I can’t retell them, I can’t properly explain what I try to say. I think of it like standing in stillness with one another, just gazing, yet still understanding that something is being said.
