Publishes books and digital downloads Jeg kjøpte mitt første speilreflekskamera da jeg var utvekslingsstudent i USA i 1985.

Der hadde jeg foto på skolen, og var mye i mørkerommet. Jeg holdt interessen for foto oppe i et par år etterpå, men fant ut at gleden av å jobbe i mørkerom ble mindre og mindre. I 2009 kjøpte jeg mitt første digitale speilreflekskamera etter å ha hatt noen mindre, rimelige digitale kamera i noen år. Kombinasjonen av fotografering og bruk av datamaskin til etterarbeid istedenfor mørkerom fant jeg fort ut passet meg utmerket. I 2013 fikk jeg tildelt et kulturstipend av Lund kommune for å videreutvikle meg innen portrettfotografering. Stipendet ble brukt til en studietur til Riga. Returnerer til Riga i mai for tur nummer 5. Jeg trives i mange ulike sjangere, men det å ta bilder under en konsert eller forestilling, samt portrettfotografering, er det som utfordrer og inspirer meg mest og har valgt å fokusere mest på disse feltene.

Sinba in a very cold pool

There is a SFW behind-the-scenes video from this shoot, and the pool was absolutely freezing. I didn’t want her to go in, but Sinba wanted to try. I tested the water with a toe and gave up immediately… she didn’t.

“Vampire Bite?”

Shot in Orlando, Florida, April 2019.

This was taken just two weeks after I left my IT career of 20 years to pursue photography and travel full-time. Not long after, the pandemic changed those plans. I never returned to IT — instead, I went back to school at a very mature age and now work in healthcare, where I’ve found more meaning than ever before.

Nataly in the Chair

Portrait of Nataly, photographed in an apartment in Riga, Latvia, in November 2022.

This was a new shoot with Nataly during that visit to Riga. The chair gives the portrait a more classic structure, while the plain wall keeps the background simple and lets her expression, pose, and dark dress carry the image.

The black and white treatment gives the portrait a quiet, clean feeling. Her relaxed hand position and direct look make the image feel calm and composed rather than overly formal.

"Don't do Selective Color"

There is a rule some photographers like to repeat: avoid selective color. I understand the argument, because it can feel forced when it is used without purpose. Here, I tried to let the idea guide the edit instead of the rule. Mirrors often carry associations with alternate worlds or hidden versions of ourselves. With that in mind, I kept the scene around Alise in monochrome and allowed only her reflection to remain in color. My goal was to give the mirrored version of her a slightly different presence, almost as if it belonged to a separate place.

This was photographed in an apartment in Riga where I had set up studio lights. The textured stone wall and ornate frame helped the concept settle into place, and the selective color became a quiet part of the story rather than a distraction.

Natural Light with Sinba in Ķemeri

Portrait of Sinba, photographed during a roadtrip we did in Latvia in 2018.

This image was made in Ķemeri National Park, near Jūrmala. The tree bark behind her gives the portrait a strong natural texture, while the black and white treatment keeps the focus on her expression, hair, and the delicate pattern of the dress.

The roadtrip gave us a chance to work outside Riga and use more natural locations. This frame has a softer feeling than many of the more posed images from that trip, with Sinba looking directly toward the camera in a calm and open way.

Candice in Low Window Light

Portrait of Candice, photographed in Latvia in 2017 during a short photo session after we had finished shooting a music video.

The image uses low, directional light against a worn interior wall, giving the portrait a quiet and slightly cinematic feeling. Candice is placed to the side of the frame, with the empty wall taking up much of the composition and adding atmosphere rather than distraction.

Her closed eyes and still pose give the image a calmer mood than the video work that came before it.
