Did you know this about the squirrel?
- Jumping artist: Squirrels can jump up to 3 meters from tree to tree.
- High speed: They can run at speeds of up to 32 km/h.
- Tail as a tool: Their bushy tail is used as a balancing rod when climbing, as an umbrella in rainy weather, and as a blanket to keep warm in cold weather.
- Good swimmers: Squirrels can swim, although they prefer to stay in the trees.
- Forgetful hoarders: Squirrels collect nuts and seeds for the winter, but forget where they hid about 50% of them.
- Nature’s tree planters: Because of this, squirrels end up planting many new trees, as the forgotten nuts often sprout.
- High stress / high pulse: Small mammals like squirrels have a very high resting heart rate.
- Not territorial: Squirrels do not defend a specific territory, and several squirrels may search for food in the same area.
