A blue micromoon is a rare celestial event that happens when two lunar phenomena occur at the same time: a Blue Moon and a Micromoon.
Blue Moon: This refers to the occurrence of a second full moon within a single calendar month. Because lunar cycles last roughly
29.5days, this alignment typically only happens once every two to three years.
Micromoon: This happens when a full moon coincides with the moon’s apogee—the point in its elliptical orbit when it is farthest from Earth. Because of this increased distance, the moon appears slightly smaller and dimmer than a typical full moon.
