Wet Plate Collodion Photography - Johanne Seines Svendsen My work is a sum of my practical and historical-theoretical education, work experience and strong sense of photography as free form of expression.

I learned the technique of wet plate collodion in 2009, as part of my formal education as a photographer. Working with wet plate collodion means cutting glass plates by hand, mixing chemicals from scratch and applying them to the glass plates to make them sensitive to light. This technique was originally used between 1850-1880, but today a new wave of photographers has re-occupied the properties o

f wet plate collodion, in seek of an alternative to the digital process. The plates are sensitive to UV light only - light which is invisible to the human eye. Due to the slow process, the photographer literally speaking leaves her fingerprints on the images, . In my portfolio at www.johannesvendsen.com you will find ambrotypes and aluminotypes; positive images on glass and metal plates. Johanne Seines Svendsen accomplished her Master of Art`s degree at the University of Trondheim in 2006, with a thesis on Norwegian History of Photography. Later, she learned the technique of wet plate collodion during an internship in Barcelona, Spain, as part of her formal education as a Photographer. She now lives and works in Lofoten, Norway. Member of Nord-Norske Bildende Kunstnere (NNBK), Norske Billedkunstnere (NBK) and Forbundet Frie Fotografer (FFF).

I recently had the joy of teaching a photographic workshop for the analogue class at Lofoten Folkehøgskole. In order to explore the very essence of photography; we built our own camera obscuras and sought inspiration from Norwegian and international photographers inside and outside the darkroom.

Here you can see one of the students pinhole camera - made out of a vintage cake box. In the background: Alexey Titarenko exploits the effect of looong exposures.

Thankyou Fotolinja and all you wonderful students 🙏❤️

The piece is soundless (with the use of light-waves instead of sound-waves), as light is cast upon an old-time 1955 microphone, leading to an exaggerated, monstrous shadow upon the wall that looks like hollowed ribcage bones, where one can feel the e...
