Birdlife on the fjord trips 🪶

The fjords offer more than steep mountainsides, waterfalls, and spectacular views. Along the water's edge, you can also find a rich birdlife, and sometimes the subjects line up quite nicely on their own.

Gjest Baardsen, also known as Firkantfar. 😎

Sogndal's perhaps most famous criminal still sit's safely on the bench. This time without any risk of escape. ⛓️😂

Gjest Baardsen (1791–1849) was a Norwegian criminal, escapee, and author, and became an almost legendary figure in Norwegian folklore. Here he sit's immortalized in stone, overlooking his own little sculpture environment.

Geirangerfjord

The steep mountainsides, waterfalls, and emerald-green fjord water make Geirangerfjord one of Norway's most iconic fjord landscapes. And viewed from the ship's deck, you also get the slightly more human side of the experience. Tourists pointing, taking photos, enjoying the view, and trying to fit the whole waterfall into one shot. 😁

A moment where nature should really take center stage, but the tourists add a bit of lively statistics in the foreground.

Where the mountains really decided to make Western Norway a bit impractical to build houses in. 😁

From up high, you get a fantastic bird's-eye view over Loen and Olden, where fjord arms, green valleys, and snow-covered mountains meet in a landscape that almost looks suspiciously well composed.

Here, there’s not much need to redecorate. Nature has already done the job. 😉

🌅 When the fjord turns to gold

In the fjords north of Ålesund, the day begins to let go. The sun disappears behind the mountains, and the sky casts the last warm colors over the fjord.

Sometimes all you need is a ferry, a few mountains, and a small moment of perfect light. 😊

Between fjord, forest, and steep mountains lies Askvoll, surrounded by the landscape that makes Western Norway so easy to fall in love with.

Here, the fjord reflects both the church and the mountains, while the clouds lay a soft cover over the peaks. A small moment with just that mix of calm and drama that Western Norway is so good at. 😊
