Hey captain Poes Yves Smit - I love you ✨

Today we’re together for 9 years. That’s a very long time and it feels a bit surreal (I feel old just writing it). I usually post about our adventures but I’m happy to report it’s also your gentle, caring nature and your enthusiasm that brings us this far. Plus (amongst other things) your never ending support and the stupid jokes we share. I’m really lucky with you in my life ♥️

You taught me to sail and repair a boat - Sailing a little and a lot of repairing lately 🛠️ 🌚

The one and only Mr. Poes cat daddy 🐈

(Being trusted by little animals is always a plus to me)

I love that you also love dancing 💕

And are not too serious for some purikura fun with the Joos 💃🕺

& also enjoy living the scruffy van & love hotel life

Hi! I’d love to invite you again to the independent art fair of Lens & Canvas - where I will show cyanotypes & The Lost World - amidst 26 other artists! It’s 11-13 sept in The Grey Space in the Middle in Den Haag and I loooove the huge program (second slide) that was created by the organisation. Entry is free!

On Sunday you can have your dog’s portrait taken! Or your favorite item’s portrait! Or you can follow my workshop cyanotyping (it’s starting to fill up tho, please let me know if you’re joining!) 💌

And all of the days you can come and see The Lost World and the artists! They’re there all weekend! Plus free interviews, lectures and other workshops!

You can also come see my cyanotypes! Still doubting to bring these or portraits…

That no one bought this piece yet surprised me a lot! I’ll bring it 🌚

Like Stone X + Cyanotypes. Portraying the kind of days you’re lost inside yourself, and the struggle is real. Posting it for those who could use it, try to be kind to yourself 💕

(Cyanotypes often show my chaos to myself. I switched the negative the wrong way around and forgot the time while baking it outside. I printed the negative too small as I didn’t check the exact size I wanted to make. But it often turns out amazing, still. I love the slightly unpredictable process, the tinkering, the influence of paper and adding other chemicals and coffee. This one I really love - just not sure to turn it black or not.)

Hot town, summer in the city / back of my neck getting dirt and gritty / been down, isn’t it a pity / doesn’t seem to be a shadow in the shadow in the city - mr Cocker.

Dreaming of the Indonesian sea today with shots from my trip in 2019. I saw huge flying fish that day and that made me immensely happy (still does). Such unbelievable animals they are. I have one tattoo’d on my arm💙

Still so in love with these images for Lukas Blom and his EP Slim Pickins 🧡 (turn on your sound!)

They’re a mix of analog and digital images and I feel they fit his warm music perfectly. I’m a fan of the album so seriously - go have a listen ✨

(On a personal note I’m a puddle on the couch thinking about finishing some things tonight but it’s so warmmmmm 🫠)

During a visit with Aliona Londono in February she showed me how, and thus I fell in love with creating cyanotypes - an old (1842!) light-sensitive process that turns a beautiful blue. >

Back home, I started experimenting with it, loving the unpredictability and the immediateness of it, combined with it being something you can hold, see, feel. >

It’s far removed from digital photography which is made on a “computer” and often stays there - although I ofcourse used my digital images as a starting point for these ✨ >

I really loved creating these and wrote about it in my newsletter 💌 >

Which in turn was read by a collector who reached out to ask if he could buy them. Which he could. >

So we discussed framing them in white little rugged frames (these are all A5, and the last one is A4) and I really love how these turned out. >

So I’m sharing these to let you know you can buy them too. A few others already did. They’re a tiny circulation (3) as I love that they’re all unique and I want to keep it that way (plus I don’t want to do redo them more). I have a few other prints too, which you could come and see if you’re in NL ✨ >

I hope to create some new works then - and go through my archive more. I’m looking forward so much to this haha. Thanks for reading all this way and I hope you love the cyanotypes too 💙🦋🔹
