My muses💘 It was that time of the year again. Shooting sisters Indra and Yara. Every year I ask them if they have anything special in mind for the shoot; a place or a theme. And most of the time they leave it up to me. But this year, 16 year old Indra answered with a very confident: I want to do an editorial! I was on board right away and initiated a collaboration with Hands and samples The girls are getting more pro by the year and the connection we developed is a special one. Weer een fijne samenwerking met Simone van de Wetering! Door middel van workshops (fotograferen & schrijven) werkten we met drie jongeren die wonen in een AZC toe naar zelfportretten, in beeld en tekst. Lees hier het eerst gepubliceerde stuk van dit project, verteld door Amara.

Vaak worden jongeren die naar Nederland zijn gevlucht geportretteerd als vluchteling en als vluchteling alleen. Zien zij zichzelf ook zo? Dat vroegen fotograaf Sofie van Esch en schrijver Simone van de Wetering zich af.

Met mijn werk vertel ik andermans verhaal. Door te observeren en in te zoomen op details probeer ik het zichtbare bijna voelbaar te maken. Ik ben geen fotograaf die alles naar mijn hand zet om een míjn perfecte plaatje te creëren. Ik laat het over aan de situatie op dat moment en werk graag samen met mijn onderwerp. De persoon, de locatie, het licht, ik laat me graag verrassen.
