Slow morning or a chaotic one, at home, in your garden or in a park, your children jumping on the bed, climbing a tree (or you), or quietly drawing in their favorite corner: I am all for it. We plan the session around your family, and of course we can always throw in some posed images for grandmas and grandpas. What I am after is photographs you will still recognize yourselves in years from now.

Family session, €395. An hour and a half in or around Eindhoven. Thirty fully edited images, in a private gallery within two weeks.

Room to Linger, €795. Three hours, so there is time for the whole of it. Snacks, board games, a slow cup of coffee, a run to the park nearby that you love, a change of clothes without rushing (and the occasional meltdown). Fifty images, with a portrait of each of you among them. Breaks whenever anyone needs one.

Find out more via the link in bio, or just send me an email (the button is on my profile) and we'll find a date.

I don't like being photographed. Which might be an odd thing to admit in this profession, but yeah: I instantly get tense in front of a camera and the tension shows. I usually glance at those pictures once and then never again.

My husband took this one in the kitchen, in the morning, without announcing it. The t-shirt was not a styling decision.

I might still look like a tired sad dog. But this one I can keep, because it caught me before I had time to arrange myself and it looks light years better than the ones where I tried to prepare.

I think a lot of people hold both things at once: not wanting to be photographed, and wanting the photographs. Those aren't in conflict. It's the being looked at that's uncomfortable, not the having.

The good news is that almost nobody stays tense for a whole hour. It is too much work. At some point the shoulders come down, we are just talking, and I am already photographing. I can't promise you will like every photograph of yourself. But the one you do like will probably come from there.

When I met them that evening, the sky was overcast, there was no sun I love so much and was hoping for, and all little M. basically wanted was to hide his face in his mom's shoulder. This looked like a recipe for not a very good session, if put mildly.

Did I get cold feet? Yeeeaah.
Did I manage to make him laugh and like me a tiny bit more? Nnnnoo.

Mostly, it stayed like that. His dad won some quick smiles here and there, all credit to him. So I did what I usually do, which is wait and stop being interesting.

All I got were a few seconds at a time when M. forgot I was there. Those seconds are the entire post, and they're the ones I love.

Well, maybe just for a moment or two they would need to stay in one place, if you want a picture for the grandparents. But otherwise I never expect your kids to be still, rather the opposite. I have one of my own.

Maybe I will suggest a place with a better light for them to get wild and play. Or follow them, like when the girls wanted to show me their bedroom (and by the way the beds are bare, because the family actually just moved in before the session).

When you are five, a pile of logs becomes a house. A handful of leaves and grass becomes a salad for the squirrels, who are apparently expected for dinner.

And the world is still so big and wonderful.

Curious, open, bold, shy, quiet, free and wild – one flowing into the next, quicksilver in a blue dress. That’s being five.

Five doesn’t pose (at least not for long). It just goes, and I am happy to follow.

Still determined to make the most of what’s left.

The heavenly smell of freshly ground coffee – this is what I remember from the mornings spent as a little girl in my grandma's kitchen. I haven't grown to love the bitterness still, and I am rather a tea person, but this smell is still heavenly. And sometimes it can bring those mornings back for a sliver of a moment, together with the sunshine, pine trees in front of the kitchen window, the tiny blue coffee cup.
Strange, what stays.

This morning belonged to someone else's kitchen. The coffee was the boy's job: his mom poured the boiling water, he did the rest. He may not remember the grams or the careful pour, but maybe, years from now, a smell will open this kitchen back up to him, the way mine still opens for me.

That's what I find worth saving. Not the picture of a nice morning, but the door left open to it, so the person he grows into can stand here again for a sliver of a moment.
