Pollinator Week: Why you should care about our pollinators (like bees, bumblebees and their friends)... 🐝

Eén op de drie producten op je bord dank je aan bestuivers. Denk aan aardbeien, tomaten, koffie en chocolade. Zonder hen stort onze voedselketen in.

In Nederland is de helft van de 360 wilde bijensoorten bedreigd. Tijdens Pollinator Week draait alles om de relatie tussen plant en insect. Je hoeft geen imker te zijn om te helpen.
Mijn 3 stappen naar een levendige tuin:

1 ) 🌸 Bloemen-snelweg
Zet bloeiende planten dicht bij elkaar. Zo hoeven bestuivers minder ver te vliegen voor energie.

2 ) ⏱️ Klokrond buffet
Kies planten en waardplanten die verspreid over het seizoen bloeien voor een continu voedselaanbod.

3 ) 💤 Nachtploeg helpen
Plant geurende avondbloeiers zoals kamperfoelie. Hiermee help je nachtvlinders bij hun bestuiving.

Een groene oase of rommelige tuin is een heldendaad. Het kost even opstartmoeite, maar daarna geniet je van een tuin vol leven.

My 3 steps towards a vibrant garden:

Place blooming plants close together so pollinators don't have to travel as far to recharge.

2 ) ⏱️ Around-the-clock buffet
Choose plants and host plants that bloom at different times for a continuous supply of food.

3 ) 💤 Help the night shift
Plant fragrant night-blooming flowers like honeysuckle. This helps moths with their nightly pollination.

A green oasis or messy garden is a heroic deed. It takes some initial effort, but afterwards, you enjoy a garden full of life.

Zodra de jonge plant zo'n vier setjes bladeren heeft, knijp je de bovenste groeitop eruit. Hierdoor vertakt de plant zich en krijg je straks veel meer roze bloemen om van te genieten! Leaf love – Zigzag magic! 🌿⚡

Deze Epiphyllum anguliger, oftewel Fishbone Cactus, is geen dorre woestijncactus. Het is een epifyt uit de regenwouden van Mexico die van nature in bomen klimt. Vandaar die wilde zigzag-bladeren met luchtwortels aan de onderkant.

Een kleine tip voor de verzorging:
Geef ‘m indirect licht, geen volle zon. Check de grond regelmatig en geef pas weer water net voor de aarde helemaal droog is (het liefst lauw kraanwater).
En nee, je hoeft geen luchtbevochtiger te kopen. Zolang de grond niet kurkdroog wordt, is ‘ie happy. 💧

✈️ Deel dit met een plantenliefhebber die deze jungle-cactus nog niet kent!

This Epiphyllum anguliger, aka Fishbone Cactus, isn’t a desert cactus. It’s an Epiphyte from Mexico’s rainforests that naturally climbs trees. That’s why it has those wild zigzag leaves with aerial roots underneath.

A little tip for its care:
Give it indirect light, not full sun. Check the soil regularly and water it right before the soil is fully dry (lukewarm tap water is best).
And no, you don’t need a humidifier. As long as the soil doesn’t get bone dry, it’s happy. 💧
