This lioness of the Xini based pride was about to join her sisters to have an afternoon rest but we were probably parked a kind off in the way on her shortest route to her destination. At the very last moment she strolled around the vehicle.
Although I often feel at ease with wild animals there will always be little doubt in the back of your head with especially with lions walking in your direction while you focus on their eyes .......

Love these resident massive gentle giants looking healthy, that visit daily (sometimes twice) the Khwai river where they are having all the water they need to drink and bath.

On the way back home from Savute to Maun guide James H.(r.i.p.) detected a "black mamba" while driving at 60/kmh in his Toyota Cruiser next to the dirt road. Suddenly hitting the brakes. Wanting to make my first ever picture of this fast and highly venomous snake we both got out of the car and I managed to make this shot on foot assisted by James the snake expert.

We caught the handsome dark-maned male of the former Xini coalition half asleep enjoying the first rays of golden sunlight in the morning overlooking the Xini lagoon at a strategic spot controlling pride and prey from a distance.

One of the rare encounters with a couple of bat-eared foxes somewhere in the Kalahari region, think it was Nxai pan. They were distracting me from their den where probably were youngsters.

During the drought of 2019 in the southern parts of Africa many animals suffered even the well known Mogotho female leopard from the Khwai area lost already two cubs out of three due to lack of water and prey. While she was resting the last cub came out of hiding to beg for milk. I heard later on she lost this one as well.

One of my favorite Black & Whites in my archives because of the greater grey tones and composition the seemed to come together in this picture.
It was a beautiful male Kudu (with an awesome fully grown set of horns) looking for a descent zip of water standing in a dried out Savute waterhole in between a small group of elephants.

The moment one of the adult lionesses decided that it was time for the large Mababe pride to go for the next hunt to feed the many hungry mouths in the pride. Starting with scanning the horizon if there was prey available.

Another lion picture of the pride I detected at the Mababe depression 2 years ago. Made a lot of clicks over there while being excited watching a whole pride with interesting individuals with perfect sunset light. In this photo I had eye contact with one of them during a feeding frenzy about a small warthog meal.
