Venus de Milo

A captivating marble marvel, shrouded in mystery.

After being lost to the void of time, the Venus de Milo (thought to be showing the glorious Aphrodite, the Ancient Greek goddess of love) was discovered on April 8th 1820 by a farmer of the island of Milos and a French sailor with an interest in archaeology.

Yorgos Kentrotas and Olivier Voutier, respectively, uncovered Aphrodite herself in marble form. Finding her in pieces.

Acquired by the Louvre and being first installed in 1821, it has lived there ever since having only been moved a handful of times.

To be in its presence is quite an experience! For me it instantly became one of the most stunning works of art I’ve ever seen. I felt in awe for moment, like I couldn’t believe I was seeing it in real life. It was somewhat breathtaking.

What a wonderfully mysterious sculpture. Yet, with no arms, (one of which is thought to have been holding an apple in its hand) the slight lack in physical presence does not reduce the quantitiy of its beauty in the slightest.

Taken back in 2023 - The Royal Navy in one of its finest hours.
Pictured above, you can see one of two mighty aircraft carriers to have joined our nations naval fleet (The HMS Prince of Wales and the HMS Queen Elizabeth).

Forgiven me if I’m mistaken, but I do believe (based on the faint insignia partly visible on the ships rear/aft tower) that this impressive feat of engineering is itself the HMS Queen Elizabeth.

Regardless of your stance on military matters and spending. It’s hard to not be impressed by the sheer magnitude and workmanship of this seafaring colossus.

Oh how I do love to be beside the seaside

There’s something so peaceful in the chaos of a crashing wave, however big or small.

The calmness it allows you to feel, yet the awe it leaves you in. It’s magnificent!

The serenity of a seaside walk and the views that nature provides along the way, paired with a dash of civilisation.
How we live side by side yet its baffling how easy it is to miss.
