🌴 Tal día como hoy

Ayyy, Palmera Inclinada...
Siempre me dolía verte con la corteza cada vez más lisa, desgastada por todos esos imbéciles que trepaban sobre ti solo para hacerse una foto y presumir en las redes sociales.

Hasta se me pasó por la mente ponerte un cartel que hablara por ti, diciendo:
“Por favor, no subáis más sobre mí.
Mi piel se hace más fina cada día,
y llegará un día en que me romperé en dos pedazos,
y ya no habrá nada que fotografiar.”
Desgraciadamente, ese día llegó. 😢

El 23 de octubre de 2022 puse el despertador para fotografiarte al amanecer.
Te acomodé el pequeño cartel que decía — no trepar a los árboles —
sin saber que sería la última vez.

Una semana después, ya de vuelta en Amsterdam, leí la triste noticia de que te habían cortado. 😢

Palmera Inclinada,
fuiste la palmera estrella de Lanzarote,
la guardiana silenciosa del viento y la lava.
Ahora brillas entre las estrellas,
donde nadie puede herirte. 🌴✨

📸 The Great Instagram Dilemma

As I said, now that I’ve finished my studies I finally have more time for photography again. So I thought: let’s try to jump back on the Instagram train.

But honestly? After a year of not posting, I got used to the silence… and it was wonderful. No pressure, no “must post today or you’ll vanish,” just peace.

Because let’s face it, the algorithm is like a grumpy train conductor. Miss one ride, and you’re pushed to the very back. No matter how good your photo is — if you’re not friends with the algorithm anymore, you’re invisible.

And now that I’m posting again, I can already feel the pressure creeping back in. Perform. Engage. Post. Like it’s a full-time job… and I already have one!

🔥Montañas del Fuego🔥
These are the “Fire Mountains” in Timanfaya National Park — a surreal, almost extraterrestrial landscape 🌋

Getting there usually means being stuck in a long line of cars. I’ve been here countless times, but sometimes I go back just for the fun of overtaking that endless queue on my bike 😈

Oh yeah… I split this one into three parts, just because I can (and because it looks cool on the grid on Instagram)— it’s actually a panorama stitched from 17 vertical shots.

Pyramids of Lanzarote 😉
Not Egypt, but the volcanic cones of Lanzarote glowing in the evening light. 🏜️ Since I do everything here by bike, I end up in spots where cars can’t really stop (or better said: aren’t allowed to stop… though some stupid tourists still do 🙄

They say there’s a pot of gold at the end of every rainbow. Well, here in Lanzarote you don’t even need the pot – the volcano keeps the treasure safe. 🌋🌈It rarely rains here (unfortunately), but when it does, the sky gives you moments like this. As if nature whispers: patience pays off.……Ik moest sowieso wachten dat de bui overging.

BOO!!!
One year later, one diploma richer. How’s everyone doing?

Wow… a whole year without posting! A bit of an Insta-detox, haha. Not bad, right? But I had other priorities — finishing my studies. And I did it. 🎓 Living proof that at 55 you can still make a career switch.

Now that my studies are done, I’ve got a little more time. So I thought: let’s post something and see if I still remember how to do this…

Here’s a photo from my beloved Lanzarote — the place where I always find mental peace. Mental, because physically… nope. I’m always on my bike here. 🚴‍♂️

The intention was to photograph the moon together with the lighthouse ‘Het Paard van Marken’... failed!!! While I was cycling towards Marken, I already saw in Broek in Waterland that there was thick cloud cover where the moon was supposed to rise. Plan B, return to Amsterdam and see if I could still capture the moon nicely there. This photo was taken from the ferry from Noord to Central Station.
Ja ja en uit de losse hand hè!!! 🤪
