WorldPride is in town this summer, with Amsterdam’s iconic Canal Parade taking place tomorrow. As always, we like to take the opportunity to dress our mannequins for the occasion with something a little playful.
Featured here is a WWII-era souvenir hula set, made from parachute silk and brought home by an American GI from the Philippines in 1946. We’ve paired it with a 60s selvedge cotton aloha shirt, a Santo Domingo heishi necklace and a German navy cap.

‘Camino a Chimayo’ - a southwest scent inspired by our travels to the New Mexican high desert.

‘Smell the clean dry desert air through New Mexico’s ancient desert pines, feel the sun setting over the high mesas, while long shadows paint the terracotta hills, dotted with a sea of sagebrush.’

SCENT NOTES:
Bright notes of piñon, juniper and desert sagebrush are
balanced by earthy cedar, and rich sandalwood.

STORY:
Chimayo has long been an important site for the Hispanic weaving traditions of northern New Mexico, and an important style of weaving is named after the town.

The name Chimayo actually derives from a Tewa Indian name for the hill of Tsi Mayoh. Tsi Mayoh is one of four sacred hills or mountains that rise above the Chimayo Valley. These mountains enclose the 4 sacred directions.

The soil itself was believed to have healing powers by the Tewa, who called it “blessed earth,” and this belief was picked up by Spanish settlers in the 1600s who founded the village of Chimayo on the ruin of a Tewa pueblo.

Centuries of beliefs in the ‘holy dirt’, the blessed earth, the soil of the sacred hill, come together in this one small village, preserving a deep spiritual connection to the land, Chimayo.
