Vote for your favorite. Last photo is of me and friends on the water, but I’m not in the running for most stylish, though the cute couple behind me is. For this year’s (Kingsday) post, I wanted to highlight some of the stylish and fun outfits that I saw. Everyone dresses in orange because the royal family bears the name “House of Orange” (Huis van Oranje) and it’s the national color. You will also see the colors of the flag #🇳🇱, but otherwise every canal, street and building is covered in orange. I will post a reel later of the festivities and craziness.🧡

Photos from Koningsdag (Kingsday) in Amsterdam this past weekend. Kingsday is a national holiday celebrating King Willem-Alexander’s birthday. The day starts with a city-wide flea market where residents sell all sorts of items, and people fill the streets throughout the day, partying, dancing and roaming around. The day can get pretty crazy, especially the later it gets. For many, the party goes into the wee hours of the morning. [Not for me…I’m sleeping with earplugs.] 😂

Cheers to it feeling like spring soon! Still a bit chilly here in Amsterdam, but the flowers are blooming and it’s getting a little warmer each week. Hope to pack away the gloves and winter coat soon. 🤞This is us warming up with coffee and Chocomel (basically hot chocolate) by, what’s known as, the “Dancing Houses” near Amsterdam Central Station.

The Westertoren (Western Tower), located beside the Anne Frank house, will be removing its bells for a year to do repairs. They chimed one last time yesterday before their removal. A wonderful concert was held to give the bells a proper send off! See the comments below to hear the music boat and the tower play together. 🥰 🔔🎺

Anne Frank writes about the Westertoren’s bells in her diary and how they brought her comfort. It was one of the few things that could be seen from the attic window in thier hiding place. I coincidentally started re-reading her diary right before I moved here, and every place that I’ve lived in Amsterdam, I’ve been able to see or hear the Westertoren. It’s been a symbol of hope and comfort for me. My challenges, no matter how big, were put into perspective with those bells. I’m going to miss hearing the tower chim on the hour and play its special tunes whenever there’s a holiday or an event. It will be nice to see the building restored and hear the bells again, after it’s all finished. 🥰

It finally snowed in Amsterdam ❄️ It only lasted half the day, but it led me to find one of the coolest cars, owned by a woman who also happens to be a photographer. Amsterdam snow magic. 💫❄️💙

If it’s going to be this cold, then let there be snow ❄️ Reminiscing of the last good snowfall in Amsterdam a few winters ago. The canals froze over and people were able to ice skate for a few days. It was magical. or

Since I showcased the cats in Amsterdam, it’s only fair I showcase some of the cute pooches of Amsterdam too. I have seen all sorts of ways that people here carry their dogs while cycling - small and large! It is a cat and dog-friendly city, and people bring their animals with them. Here are a few quick snapshots of the city’s pups… #🐶
