BREAKING NEWS: NRM HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY CANDIDATE, DR. AGBEDEYI, REPORTEDLY JOINS APC AHEAD OF 2027 ELECTIONS

BENIN CITY, EDO STATE — Dr. Odimientimi Agbedeyi, the National Rescue Movement (NRM) candidate for Ovia South-West Constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly, has reportedly defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The reported defection followed a closed-door meeting with prominent political figures and party leaders in Edo State. Those reportedly involved in the meeting include the Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa; Hon. Sunday Aghedo, member representing Ovia South-West Constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly; and the Ofunama Ward chairman, alongside other party stakeholders.

MULADE SHERIFF MOURNS EX-GOVERNOR UDUAGHAN, HAILS LEGACY OF PEACE, DEVELOPMENT

Warri, Delta State | October 19, 2026

Comrade Mulade Sheriff, PhD, National Democratic Party (NDP) candidate for Warri Federal Constituency and Coordinator of the Centre for Peace and Environmental Justice (CEPEJ), has expressed profound sorrow over the reported passing of former Delta State Governor, His Excellency, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, CON, describing his death as a monumental loss to Delta State, the Itsekiri Nation, the Niger Delta and Nigeria.

In a condolence statement issued on behalf of CEPEJ’s Board of Trustees, management, staff and volunteers, as well as the peace-loving people of Warri Federal Constituency, Mulade described the late former governor as a statesman, political colossus and father figure whose contributions to governance, peacebuilding and human development would remain indelible.

Uduaghan, who governed Delta State from 2007 to 2015, was fondly known as the “Talk and Do Governor” in recognition of his administration’s emphasis on infrastructure, healthcare, education and economic diversification.

A LEGACY OF SERVICE AND DEVELOPMENT

Mulade recalled Uduaghan’s professional journey as a medical doctor before his entry into public service, where he served as Commissioner for Health and Secretary to the Delta State Government before becoming governor.

He highlighted the former governor’s Three-Point Agenda of Peace and Security, Human Capital Development, and Infrastructure Development, alongside the Delta Beyond Oil initiative, which sought to broaden the state’s economic base beyond crude oil.

According to Mulade, Uduaghan’s administration made significant contributions to healthcare delivery, including free maternal healthcare and healthcare services for children under five, as well as investments in education and infrastructure.

He also praised the late governor’s role in promoting peace and stability in the Niger Delta, noting that constructive engagement with stakeholders and youth groups remained essential to sustainable development in the region.

CEPEJ MOURNS A PEACE ADVOCATE

The CEPEJ coordinator described Uduaghan as a leader who maintained an open-door approach to civil society organisations and youth groups and supported advocacy for peace and environmental justice in the Niger Delta.

“His passing is not just the loss of a former governor; it is the fall of an Iroko whose experience, leadership and contributions touched countless lives,” Mulade stated in his tribute.

CONDOLENCES TO FAMILY AND DELTA STATE

Mulade extended his condolences to the late governor’s wife, Her Excellency, Deaconess Roli Nere Uduaghan; his children; Chief James Onanefe Ibori; Governor Sheriff Oborevwori; the Uduaghan Royal Family of Abigborodo; and the entire Itsekiri Nation.

He prayed that Almighty God would grant the departed statesman eternal rest and give his family, friends and the people of Delta State the strength to bear the loss.

THOSE CALLING FOR OTUARO'S SACK ARE ATTENTION SEEKERS, BLACKMAILERS

Our attention has been drawn to the sponsored campaigns of calumny and cheap blackmail against the administrator of the presidential amnesty programme Dr. Dennis Brutu Otuaro by attention seekers, blackmailers and political hustlers who do not mean well for the Niger Delta.

We wish to state categorically that these elements are driven by envy, greed and selfish interest to pull him down. Some are envious of the far-reaching reforms and integrity Otuaro has brought to the Amnesty Programme, while others are paid agents hired to destabilize the programme for their selfish gains.

It is public knowledge that since his appointment, Dr. Otuaro has sanitized the system, blocked leakages, restored accountability and refocused the programme to its original mandate of reintegrating, empowering and uplifting ex-agitators and the Niger Delta youths.

Those fighting him are those who can no longer feed fat on the old corrupt system. They have resorted to blackmail and media attacks to distract him.

We therefore call on the general public, the Presidency and all well-meaning Niger Deltans to completely ignore them. Their calls do not represent the interest of the Ijaw nation nor the Niger Delta region. They represent their pockets.

As a group, we pass a vote of confidence on Dr. Dennis Otuaro and urge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to continue to support him to deliver on his mandate. Otuaro remains one of the best administrators in the Amnesty Programme in recent times.
