Earlier today, the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe (FNSE, FIPS), attended the groundbreaking ceremony of the 200 MMSCFD Southfield Petroleum Limited (SPL) Utorugu Gas Processing Plant in Iwherekan, Ughelli, Delta State. The project, a partnership with Southfield Petroleum Limited, aligns with the Federal Government’s Decade of Gas initiative and is expected to boost LPG supply, support cleaner energy adoption, and deepen Nigerian content through local capacity utilization.
Represented by the Director, Corporate Services, NCDMB, Dr. Abdulmalik Halilu, the Executive Secretary noted that NCDMB’s equity participation reflects its commitment to job creation, technology transfer, and industrial growth, while expressing confidence in the safe and timely delivery of the project. The SPL Chairman, Dr. Patrick Ndiomu, highlighted that the plant will supply up to 20% of Nigeria’s LPG needs. Meanwhile, the Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Sen. Heineken Lokpobiri, described the project as transformative and urged host communities, as key beneficiaries, to take ownership.
Engr. Raphael Chinda, representing the Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, Ph.D., commended the Board’s commitment to translating policy into high-impact investments that benefit the economy and citizens. He also praised Southfield Petroleum Limited for the initiative, acknowledged the continued leadership of NCDMB, and reaffirmed the Federal Government’s strong support for projects that drive Nigeria’s gas development agenda.
