I made this because I realised some emotions don’t sit in the heart; they sit around your neck.
The anger you never expressed. The apologies you never got. The disappointments you kept telling yourself you’d get over. Every time you said, I’m fine, another layer wrapped itself around you.
At first, it’s light. Then it becomes familiar. Then one day, it’s so thick that you can’t tell where it ends and where you begin.
This piece is about carrying too much for too long. About the weight of bottled-up feelings and old wounds that refuse to leave quietly.
Sometimes, the things choking us aren’t the things happening now. They’re the things we’ve been carrying around our neck all along.
