: Murphy FC Edges Ejigbo Academy in Dramatic Injury-Time Penalty Shootout After 1-1 Draw
On August 6, 2025, Ejigbo City Stadium buzzed with excitement as Murphy FC battled Ejigbo Academy in a ceremonial football match, a highlight of the celebrations honoring the 60th birthday of Dr. Najeem Folasayo Salaam, a revered politician, philanthropist, and former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly.
The match, which kicked off at 4:00 PM with Dr. Salaam taking the ceremonial first kick, was graced by a distinguished crowd of dignitaries and spectators, underscoring the event’s significance to the Ejigbo community and beyond.
Prominent chieftains of the Action Democratic Congress (ADC), Osun, and the Omoluabi Progressives, led by Alhaji Issa Adesiji Azeez, attended alongside notable figures from opposition parties, particularly the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and an esteemed assembly of royal fathers. Traditional rulers present included HRM Oba Najeemdeen Oseni (Onisara of Inisa), HRM Oba Yekinni Adebisi (Olu of Olorin), HRM Oba Williams (Asundunrin of Isundunrin), Oba Alaye of Aye, Oba Aalato of Aató, Oba Aalado of Ado-Ori Oke, and other distinguished monarchs.
Following the match, cash prizes and a trophy were awarded to the winners, runners-up, and the third-placed team, with medals presented to outstanding players and others.
In addition, the celebrant, Rt. Hon. Najeem Folasayo Salaam, popularly known as Iwaloye, commissioned a water borehole project and donated technical team seating stands to the community.
In his appreciation speech, the celebrant expressed gratitude to all who contributed to the event’s success. Cash donations were also received from friends, both locally and in the diaspora.
