New beginnings ❤️
Maternity Portraits of my friend, Obianuju
Makeup: .loba
Outfit:

These are the perfect images to start a new year and ring in a new beginning for my practice.
I’m taking a break from commercial portrait photography for some months to focus on what my practice really means to me and how I want to show up going forward.
Thank you so much for your support these past few years.

This break is currently indefinite till I decide I’m ready.
In this period, I will not be taking portrait photography bookings and my presence here might be more limited.

I look forward to the way my work will evolve and all the personal work I’ll get to do!

If you read this far, you’re an absolute rockstar and your support means a lot to me, thank you! ❤️

Makeup:

My favourite time to shoot at is in the evenings when the evening sun is a willing participant in my sessions 🤍.
It always feels like a nod to my background of shooting with natural light only and I enjoy it so much.
I’m taking a break from paid work for some months and I’m going to really miss this 🤍.

It’s very hard to love yourself with physical flaws when you’re in a society that constantly reminds you that those flaws make you less than.
Due to having acne, I’ve had to deal with the worst comments from family, friends and strangers. I’ve heard someone refer to my face as “bad road”, people have seen me and exclaimed really loudly like I’m a monster.
It feels like I can’t simply exist without anyone calling attention to my skin in the worst ways possible.
It has made me very self conscious and self loathing. For a very long time, I avoided mirrors and taking photos of myself.
I want people to see this project and understand that it’s not okay to be so mean to people. It’s not okay to treat people like they’re less than because they don’t meet your standards of beauty and aesthetics.

Sometime last year, I worked on a project very personal to me.
I documented people living with acne, I’ve kept it away for so long because I didn’t know how to present it or talk about it.
I’m grateful to Raheemah, Winifred, , and for agreeing to be a part of this 🤎.
It’s a year after but it’s finally ready. I almost kept it away again but here’s to me doing things anyway even if I’m afraid.
The skin series (living with acne) is up on my website! (Yes website, I have a personal portfolio website now 🤎)

Images from the End SARS protest from Unilag to Maryland today.
I was still so knackered from the protest on Saturday today and I almost didn’t leave my house because I needed to rest but I told myself that our voices need to be heard! The people that have lost their lives to police brutality didn’t get the chance to choose whether to stay at home or not.
Police brutality must end in Nigeria!
Don’t stop talking about it
