This post is to tell a little story and celebrate my friend Odunayo Fasina getting married this weekend.
Odun was there in the beginning when Cutest Photography metamorphosed to a real business and brand.
The year was 2014 and we were fresh graduate out of Ife. Well, Odun had graduated but I was hanging because I had an extra semester to tackle in My department B*H. A 3 unit course had given me an extra semester, so I have to rewrite the course the next semester, it means I have a lot of free time on my hands.
Myself and Odun will go to Zoology departmental library by 6pm every day. We had more than 3 Intecu passwords ( belonging to lecturers. Only OAU people will understand). With unlimited access to internet, we would research and browse about Photography, editing , posing, sound production etc.
By 9pm, we would take a stroll to SUB and buy the famous ‘risky’ ( bread and egg sandwiched together ). With a full belly, we would browse and research till the next morning. We did this consistently everyday for about 2 semesters. At the end of that period, I had a 500TB hard drive that was full of screenshots from accomplished photographers.
I actually didn’t know what we were doing but it was an important phase in our life. We were armed with knowledge mehn. I would research international photographers like Jerry Ghionis, Lindsey Adler, Susan Stripling, Neil Redfren, Jide Alakija etc. study their images, how they posed, how they lit the images. I dare say my mastery of posing and direction today can be traced back to those days. My image bank was so full I don’t look at phones or internet for poses when posing and directing.
Today is Brodun’s wedding and I look back and thank him for the part he played, the brotherhood and the camaraderie we formed those years. They are an important part of who I am today.
