Yesterday i visited Dei-Dei Zuba Community, along Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria, in Abuja where the street fight Dambe takes place.

Dambe is a traditional boxing associated with Hausa people in Nigeria and West Africa sub-Region. In Dambe, there are no formal weight categories, competitors are matched mostly based on age and size. Though the fight rarely exceed three rounds, a fighter is declared winner when an opponent's hand, knee, body touches the ground, or is Knocked down. Unlike the Western traditional boxing style which allow boxers to wear gloves to cover fists, Dambe boxers simply wraps their strong-side fist with a piece of cloth and covered by tightly knotted cord.

It often results in serious bodily injuries for the challengers such as broken Jaws and ribs.
