Here comes an evergreen powerful statement:

"If you keep doing the same thing the same way you'll keep getting the same result."

Now here is something for you to do:

Take inventory of your daily tasks and find out if there has been any novelty in the last quarter, or year.

You cannot initiate a change if you are not aware of the things that need to be changed.
..And awareness of the needed changes comes from probing.

You'll be amazed at the things your mind will reveal to you if you give it permission. Take some time off and begin your review.

Happy New Month.
Welcome to the second 'Third' of the Year.

Let’s talk a little about CONTENT WRITING and where you'll learn more about it.

You hate writing because of the hassles involved. It is brain draining, time consuming, BLA BLA BLA.

What if I told you that it is not as difficult as you think.

There are tools that will make your work a lot easier.

Let’s dive in.

The first app is …

OTTER

Have you ever been in a situation when an idea or a thought raced through your mind and you said “hmmm, rhema…. I will write this later,” but when it was time to write down, you completely went blank.

You tried to remember; you tapped your head and looked serious as if your moment of seriousness and solitude would help.

But you were disappointed. Nothing came.

Hehehehe. Trust me, I have been there.

So next time, when an idea drops on your mind, bring out your phone and utter your thoughts and ideas to the OTTER App and your voice would be recorded and transcribed into texts.

Just like that!

You can then copy the texts into any word processing app and build your contents for your social media platforms or your blog.

Hear this...

Your mind is really powerful. Always feed it with conversations from thought leaders or industry experts in your niche...
..It will amaze you how your mind will recreate and innovate ideas from off the conversations of other people. This is why you must listen to podcasts and watch YouTube videos intentionally.

If you are better at speaking than at writing, this should not be problem at all because contents on social media are more conversational than literary. So with “Otter”, you speak to it like you would when talking to a friend.

Another tool...

ANSWER THE PUBLIC

ANSWER THE PUBLIC gets you a long list of keywords that brings out all the available search information.

This app helps you to know what people are searching for on the internet and this will further help you to generate ideas for contents in your niche.

With ANSWER THE PUBLIC, you’ll learn phrases and words that are commonly used by people when they search for things on the internet and this will aid you in developing search engine optimized contents.

Take note of this:

If you want to learn about Content Creation and Marketing, Hubspot Academy does a good job and their lessons are free.

Remember, the proof of your learning is in your results.

𝐅𝐑𝐎𝐌 𝐒𝐎𝐀𝐊𝐀𝐖𝐀𝐘 𝐒𝐋𝐀𝐁𝐒

I was glued to my TV as a programme that featured Nigeria’s table tennis amazon, OLUFUNKE OSHONAIKE, was aired.

She regaled her audience by chronicling the struggles that characterised her rise from obscurity to fame.

One thing that stood out for me, amongst several other things, was where and how she started.

“I started playing table tennis on soakaway slabs with my elder brother,” came her reply when she was asked.

God asked Moses, “What is that in thine hand?”

And this question comes to you again, “What are the resources at your disposal?”

Start from where you are and with what you have.

We postpone doing certain things because we are constantly in search of an ideal situation to begin, forgetting that every situation has its fair share of challenges (new levels, new devils).

The bible puts it succinctly, “He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much ..."

You want to learn coding and you don’t have a laptop, start with your android phone. There are tons of mobile apps that you can begin with (I will recommend “Solo Learn”).

You want to learn photography but you are waiting to have a camera first, then you haven’t heard of Smartphone Photography.

Some people will say, “I would really love to learn to play the piano, but I don’t have a tutor.”

My response to them ... “Do YouTube videos bite?”

“But I don’t have a piano yet,” they would reply in defence.

My response, again … “Learn basic fi*****ng on your table, at least you have one or you have access to one. I did the same when I started.”

Yes, I know there are many tutorials on YouTube with no clear direction, but hey, you are just starting out, remember. Do something while you wait for a tutor.

You have to take responsibility for your learning and continuous growth.

The tools you need to begin are usually disguised in the things you take for granted.

As you begin, there will be odds, but you will overcome if you approach them with strong intentions.

Despise not your little beginnings for they will become spices to your success story!

SECOND HALF

I received a message from a friend sometimes ago.

“Can you develop a website?” She asked.

She wanted it done with a particular technology.

Truth is, I had been trying to learn web development with that technology but I hadn’t been able to bring myself to doing so.

I had consoled myself with words like….

“You’re busy.” “You will make out time." “You know you are trying your best."

I had tons of video courses and other resources on this too, but they didn’t automatically helped me in getting the work done.

“When do you need it?” I enquired.

“Very soon.”

“I will do it,” I said.

She needed it done in few weeks.

I took up the challenge because I was sure I could deliver.

I started. I got bugs, of course. I debugged. I got stuck, but I couldn't afford to remain in it, because, the deadline was staring deeply.

I had a steep learning curve. The experience, exasperating, as well as, exhilarating, with leaps of joy for every small win and then I sank again into another bug (O my...).

I even wondered where I found the time. The myth of “no time” dissipated because this project was tied to a timeline.

So, what changed?...

Self-management did happen. I had to reduce my engagements with low-value tasks...

And the no-value tasks, I cast and kept within bounds.

Was I able to complete it in good time?
..Of course!

Phew! I felt an air of accomplishment upon completion. I had surprised myself.

********************************************

I know we sometimes find ourselves in this kind of situation.

We buy video courses (don’t get me wrong, it’s okay to buy video courses – I have bought some too) in the hope that every other thing will fall in line.

We download YouTube videos and other resources, only to realise that unavailability of those materials wasn't our only problems.

Inability to take action, absence of drive to stay committed, self indulgence, amongst others, are too.

"So what is the way out of this rot?"

I knew you would ask.

Some people need more than video courses or books to achieve certain things.

They need stimulants, like, the right environment with the right people who would be willing to work and partner with them.

If you are among this set of people, you will need to get immersed in challenging scenarios.

Take on projects, enrol in bootcamps, do volunteer jobs, go for an internship, even if the pay is very low or non-existent.

Join a group, but beyond this, participate in group activities.

Connect with like-minded people. Get a mentor who will be ready to commit to your cause.

You will be amazed at the things you would learn and actualise if you do the aforementioned.

It’s not over yet. Your dreams are still valid.

- You can, you will, you must.

Welcome to the second half.
The whistle has been blown again.
Run with the ball.

HIS WAYS

I got this line from a movie...

"If someone prays for patience, God doesn't give him patience, but the opportunity to be patient. If he prays for courage, God doesn't give him courage, but the opportunity to be courageous."

Here's my take:

God is not going to grant your requests on your terms... Usually, He will meet your desires in ways that will build strong capacities in you to contain His blessings.

This is why He would rather give you learning experiences that will usher you to His overflow than unleash his bare blessings on you that may lead to your ruin.

Trust God in the process.... Revere His ways.

His ways are higher and nobler than ours.

In the end, we will declare gloriously... "For we know that all things work together for our good."

Have a fruitful week.

THIS MAN

A man on a raised platform was encompassed by a mass of giddy people. A red cloth was tied around his waist and on his head, which looked like what was done in a hurry.

There was something moving about this crowd. The melodious noise of cheer that echoed with every performance.

“Wow!” I was amazed when a pair of Italian shoes became two as this man raised a basin that covered it.

I held Shawn by the hand when I spoke to him, as though to sound convincing. I wanted his golden wristwatch doubled.

He protested but I persevered, repeating lines that I perceived were misunderstood by him.

In the end, I managed to win his heart.

“Who’s next?” The strong, baritone voice from this man pierced my heart and my cravings prodded me.

I didn’t mind what he did to the others who came before me. He had touched their forehead with a wand and spat gin which he used to rinse his mouth on their body.

After his ritual with me, he raised the basin but the wristwatch had not doubled.

He swayed his body this way and that way as if it was the ritual he had forgotten to add before raising the basin.

Beads of sweats had begun to form on his forehead after several attempts.

I didn’t foresee the hurtling that ensued. Some people booed him; others picked up things. Shawn’s wristwatch was picked too.

I couldn’t tell if Shawn noticed the streak of blood on the left corner of my mouth when he spoke to me or he just decided to ignore it because he was brimming with anger. The thunderbolt that hit me came when he said that he would tell his father to stop my visa preparation.

Be wary of investment schemes that promise automatic doubling of your investment.

Many have been financially wounded. Some haven't healed from their losses.

"For the love of money is the root of all evil; which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows."

TWO RATS

Obinna heard movements in his bathroom. As he got up from the bed, he took the torch that stood on his table.

He tiptoed to the bathroom’s door and opened it gently. The ray from his torch searched the bathroom and suddenly his eyes met the gaze of two rats. He was aghast seeing that the two rats didn’t move despite seeing him.

“You poor devils, you are still there looking at me… right?”

The rats kept staring.

“Okay, wait for me ehn. You will be so dead when I come back”

Obinna closed the door gently and went in search of a stick.

As he went back to the bathroom, he wished the rats were gone but the rats were still there and this time, their gaze was sterner.

“Jesus!” He closed the door and his heart raced.

“Why should I be afraid of these little creatures. It should be the other way na."

As he opened the door again, he didn’t see the rats and he wasn't sure what to do.

“Blood of Jesus. The devil is a liar. They can’t get me. My village people, you have failed.” He milled the bathroom’s floor while his eyes searched for a trace.

He saw the rats again where they stayed afloat in the water closet. They looked at him and parted their lips and the smile on their faces broadened.

“Noooooooooo!!!!!”

Obinna felt something brushing his chest and he opened his eyes.

“So it has been a dream… Gimme that!” he grabbed the teddy bears from his baby’s hands.”

He went outside and in few seconds the teddy bears were in flames.

His wife joined him where he stood looking at the fire.

“Honey, I heard you shouting… and why are you burning Junior’s teddy bears?"

“Dear, it’s a long story. I will get him other teddy bears…. but this time, they won’t look like rats.”

BETTER THAN MY NEIGHBOUR

Julius slouched in his chair. He had just checked the book where he wrote his goals with optimism at the beginning of year 2020. He was only able to tick one of the goals at the end of the year.

“This year sef. Shey na ‘year’ be this so? If only I could format this year, I for nor just waste time at all.” He murmured.

He got up and moved to the window to push the curtain so he could bring illumination to his room that was poorly lit. This act brought his eyes to a boy who held his blind father by the hand. The duo walked and begged anyone they saw on the road.

What Julius saw brought relief to him because his condition was better than theirs.

As he returned to his chair, he felt fresh pangs of guilt. He wondered why his relief should be predicated on the misfortune of others.

******************************************************************

We live in a world where people can be comfortable with their poverty provided that their neighbours are poor too, or better still, poorer! (“We Die Here” mentality).

Some people would rather have one million naira if their neighbour had five hundred thousand naira or less, than have ten million naira if their neighbour had twenty million naira (“I Better Pass My Neighbour” mentality).

Awon “pepper dem gang” … hear what Dave Ramsey said …. “We buy things we don’t need with money we don’t have to impress people we don’t like.”

Do you know that comparing yourself to others is a recipe for unhappiness?

Strive to become a better version of yourself rather than lose your human essence in the process of ‘photocopying’ others.

Another thing is this……

Don’t even stop developing yourself because you feel you are way better than others. God told Joshua, “Thou art old and stricken in years, and there remaineth yet very much land to be possessed.” (Joshua 13 : 1b).

What God told Joshua simply tells us not to bask and rest on our laurels because there is no limit to what we can do.

Now here is the caveat…

I never said that healthy rivalry should not be encouraged.

If it is not healthy… if it will not challenge us to improve… if it will make us demoralised…. then such rivalry is a dead end.

Why should we even use others’ success as a benchmark for ours.… it would simply mean that we are giving them more power than they deserve. Let’s live our lives, exuding true joy not because we are better than our neighbours but because in God lies our sufficiency. (2 Cor. 3:5)

Friends, don’t delight yourself in the misfortune of others, rather ….. “Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.” (Psalm 37:4).

Another year is in the offing… make the most of it.

Be grateful even for the little things you have been blessed with.
