**Kindness in unlikely places.**

My bike broke down on the way to work this morning and I was already imagining the scolding I’d get for being late.

Then something unexpected happened.

A rider ahead of us stopped, ignored his passenger’s complaints, opened his seat and brought out his toolbox to help fix the chain.

While that was happening, another rider coming from the opposite direction stopped, turned back, asked where we were headed, told us to pay the bike man, and carried us the rest of the way — free of charge.

The first guy didn’t even wait to collect his toolbox. He simply said we should drop it with the mechanic at the bus stop when we were done.

Total strangers. No expectations. Just kindness.

Moments like this remind me that kindness is still very much alive in Nigeria.

Cosmic drift
Timely intervention;
That exact aid.
A little nudge,
A friendly wind;
A little kick
Rightly placed.
Lucky grope in the dark,
Whispering light switch.
One uncertain step placed
In front of an unsure one.
Gradually up the ladder;
One luck at a time.
Hard work comes to play,
Here and there;
A few backslide and fall
From time to time,
Nudge you in place.
Nudge them in place.
Nudge us in place.
Then we meet
And scream coincidence!

A piece of rain

No more. I’ll have no part of it;
The heat and decay, smells cloyingly cooked.
That rot trampled under foot, ground in clay,
That simmer in places we don’t wish to see.
I want no part of it.

It has my name on it
Bold and glaring-its a wonder no one sees,
That decay just under my skin
If I were any more fair it’ll be clear
But as most things not shoved up their noses, no one notices

I want a piece of rain
Drive that heat away
Far far away to places i do not know;
That cloying decay, away from under my skin
That cooked smell, simmering heat; I need a piece of rain.
