I woke up on a Saturday morning and was told a neighbor had just asked after me. Prior to that time, he had asked about twice within the week. So i went over. He told me he had a friend who will be getting married (next weekend) and wanted to do a pre wedding shoot. When i asked when they wanted the shoot, he starred in my face and said....10:00am....what!??? its already past 9am. I wanted to decline because from experience, most urgent shoot like that don’t turn out good. But because this is what i love doing more than anything, I asked him to give me a couple of minute to go get ready. I called up the team and we were on our way in about 40 minutes later.
Normally, i love to have an interactive session with my clients, to bond and know them better. Doing this makes their images relational. Obviously this was not going to happen with this about to wed couples, there wasn’t going to be time for that. So, while on our way, i was having all kinds of imaginations how the images will turn out to be. We meet with the groom, and we had to make another 10 minute drive to go pick up the bride.......I leveraged that to bond with him. Still i was hoping the bride would have been done with her preps and makeup by the time we got there. If you are a photographer, you’d know what a nightmare it is when they take the whole day making up.
We arrived at her residence and had to wait another 10 minutes for her to come out, in my mind i was like “i knew this would happen”... finally she was out and guess what? She came out with a n**e face. No make-up whatsoever. Not even a dust of powder on her face. After we got introduced guess what my first question was? Yea you guessed right! I asked her if she had her make-up artist waiting for us at the location.......she just smiled. Again, bonding while heading out to the location. By the time we got to our location, we were conversing like we had known ourselves for ever. Amaka and Okey are one of the most free spirited couples i have ever met. I had no problem shooting them all through and i never expected we could make such beautiful images in such a short notice. Amaka’s soul is more beautiful than she looks even without any make-up on. They are both blessed to have each other.
I feel so blessed to have found photography. It allows me to meet some of the most beautiful people in a lifetime. And the privilege to be a part of one of the most important moments in their lives is one thing i never take for granted.
Congratulations to this beautiful people.
