The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has destroyed 329,865.585 kilogrammes of assorted illicit drugs valued at N301.058 billion in Lagos.

The drugs, which included co***ne, he**in, methamphetamine, cannabis, Canadian Loud, skunk, ephedrine, tramadol, codeine syrup, other opioids and khat leaves, were destroyed on Monday.

The NDLEA, in a statement by its spokesman, Femi Babafemi, said the exercise was conducted pursuant to orders of the Federal High Court, Lagos Judicial Division, following the conclusion of uncontested cases and seizures that had been abandoned.

According to him, 246,864.535kg of the illicit drugs were seized by operatives between April 2025 and May 2026.

The Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Lere Olayinka, has defended the FCT Administration over Saturday’s flooding in parts of Abuja, saying the problem predates the assumption of office of Minister Nyesom Wike.

Olayinka also accused lawyer and activist Deji Adeyanju of politicising the incident by blaming Wike for the flooding, while noting that the FCT Administration was already taking steps to address the recurring problem.

The statement comes amid renewed public attention to flooding in Abuja following Saturday’s downpour, with the incident reigniting debate over drainage infrastructure, urban planning, waste disposal and flood management in the Federal Capital Territory.

Olayinka, however, dismissed the criticism of the FCT Administration, insisting that the flooding should be viewed within the broader history of the capital’s recurring drainage and urban planning challenges.

n a statement issued on Monday, Olayinka said the heavy rainfall on Saturday resulted in flooding in some parts of the nation’s capital, but noted that the water receded after some time.

He said the FCT Administration was mindful of the recurring flooding and was taking measures to prevent future occurrences, while criticising Adeyanju for repeatedly attacking Wike over the incident.

The elder brother of Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, Dr. Adedeji Adeleke, has said that the family’s victory over the immediate past governor, Gboyega Oyetola, in the state’s governorship election was not driven by superior financial resources, but by fervent prayers.

Adedeji Adeleke made this known while speaking in a video shared by X user on Monday, at a ceremony held to celebrate his brother’s victory in the Osun governorship election on Sunday.

The Ekiti State Police Command has commenced an investigation to establish the whereabouts of a 19-year-old woman, Dandam Happiness, who has been missing since August 10, 2026.

The Police Public Relations Officer for the command, SP Sunday Abutu, disclosed this in a statement issued in Ado Ekiti on Monday.

According to Abutu, Happiness left her residence in Ado Ekiti at about 4pm on August 10 and has not returned.

The statement said, “She left her residence in Ado Ekiti on 10th August, 2026, at about 16.00 hours (4pm), to an unknown destination and has not returned since then.”

The police described the missing woman as 19 years old, approximately 4.5 feet tall and fair in complexion, adding that she has no tribal marks and speaks English fluently.

The statement added, “All efforts made by her relatives and friends to locate her whereabouts have proved abortive.”

Abutu said the command had commenced investigations to determine her whereabouts and ensure her safe return.

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime has called for deeper collaboration with Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Mining Marshals as concerns mount over the growing links between illegal mining, organised crime and terrorism across Nigeria, West Africa and the Sahel.

The call was made during a strategic visit by a UNODC delegation to the Mining Marshals Corps, where the international body commended the specialised unit for its expanding role in tackling illegal mining and related criminal activities.

The Commander of the Mining Marshals, Assistant Commandant of Corps, John Attah, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday.

The UNODC delegation was led by the Chief of the Africa Section of the Terrorism Prevention Branch, Tullio Santini, who praised the Mining Marshals for their enforcement efforts.

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has filed a fresh N10bn fundamental rights suit against the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission over alleged denial of access to his wife and son while in custody.

In the suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1852/2026 and filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja on August 13, El-Rufai alleged that the ICPC prevented his wife, Aichatou Asabe, and son, Abba El-Rufai, from visiting him.

The former governor, through his lawyer, Ubong Akpan, also joined the ICPC chairman and the Attorney-General of the Federation as the second and third defendants, respectively.

El-Rufai is seeking nine reliefs, including declarations that his fundamental rights guaranteed under Part IV of the 1999 Constitution remain enforceable despite his detention.

A former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Mr Timi Frank, has described Governor Ademola Adeleke’s victory in the Osun State governorship election as a strong demonstration of the power of the electorate and a warning ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Frank, in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday, said the outcome of Saturday’s election showed that voters could withstand political pressure, intimidation and other challenges when determined to defend their choices at the ballot box.

The Independent National Electoral Commission declared Adeleke, the Accord Party candidate, winner of the election after he secured 511,067 votes, defeating the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes. Adeleke’s margin of victory was 66,252 votes.

Reacting to the result, Frank said the outcome should serve as an important signal to political parties and candidates preparing for the 2027 presidential election.

Governor Ademola Adeleke has appealed for peace and unity in Osun State after his re-election, even as the All Progressives Congress weighs its legal options after losing Saturday’s governorship election.

Adeleke was declared winner of the poll by the Independent National Electoral Commission after polling 511,067 votes to defeat the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who scored 444,815 votes. The governor won 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji won 11.

INEC declared Adeleke the winner after he secured victory in 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji won in the remaining 11 council areas.

Police officers at the Zone One Headquarters, Kano, have arrested five suspects over alleged impersonation and the production, sale and distribution of counterfeit herbal medicine products using the name of a registered traditional medicine practitioner.

The arrest of the suspects was confirmed in a statement by the Public Relations Officer of Zone One, Abdullahi Hussaini, on Friday.

According to the statement, the suspects were apprehended following a complaint received on August 10, 2026, from Abdulwahab Abubakar, Chief Executive Officer of Abdulwahab Abubakar Herbal and Islamic Clinic, Bauchi.

“The complainant alleged that the suspects and others now at large have been using his name, business identity, and lectures to market and sell counterfeit products.
