There are some families you photograph… and then there are families who feel a little bit like your own.

I have a little bit of history with this beautiful couple, and getting to capture Zaandre and Matt in this season of their lives, now with their precious baby Jean, was something truly special.

There is so much love in this home. The kind that doesn’t need to be posed or directed. It’s in the way Mom and Dad look at their baby, in the little everyday moments, and even in the beautiful chaos that comes with a new baby.

And, of course, we couldn’t leave out furry baby Oreo! She was VERY excited to be part of the shoot and brought all of her wonderfully energetic personality along with her.

These are the moments I love capturing most — real connection, real love and the beautiful little pieces of everyday life that you’ll one day look back on and wish you could hold onto forever.

Newborn photography doesn’t always have to mean a studio, elaborate setups or perfectly posed photographs. Sometimes it’s simply you, your baby and your life together. A slow morning at home. Tiny cuddles on the couch. Dad holding baby. Mom soaking in those newborn moments. Your furry family member trying to get involved. The little details that make your family yours.

There is something incredibly special about photographing a couple as they step into the beautiful, sometimes overwhelming, and completely life-changing adventure of becoming parents for the first time.

Little Elian recently made his way into the Embark Photography studio for his newborn session, and what a precious little boy he is!

This session actually came about thanks to Ronel, the very proud Ouma, who reached out to me because she wanted to make sure some special memories of her first grandchild were captured. And let me tell you… Ouma Ronel had everything organized!

She made sure her son Magnus and his lovely wife Amia arrived at the studio with their beautiful little boy, ready to capture this incredibly special chapter of their lives.

For Magnus and Amia, these are the very first pages of their story as Mom and Dad. For Ronel, they are the first precious memories of becoming a grandmother. And for little Elian, these photographs will one day tell him just how loved he was from the very beginning.

Newborn days are fleeting. Those tiny fingers, sleepy stretches, little noises and the way they fit so perfectly into your arms change far too quickly.

This is why I love what I do. We aren't just taking pretty photographs. We're preserving the beginning of a family's story and memories that will become even more precious as the years go by.

Thank you, Ronel, Magnus and Amia, for trusting Embark Photography to capture these first beautiful moments with little Elian. It was such a privilege to have you all in front of my lens.

“The greatest gift we can give our children is a way to remember where they came from.”

It was so lovely welcoming the Krause family back in front of my lens once again. There is something incredibly special about photographing families over the years and watching little ones grow with each new chapter.

This time we enjoyed a relaxed studio half session, and of course, the little boys stole the show! Watching their personalities shine through was such a reminder of how quickly childhood passes us by.

One of my favourite parts of this session was that we also invited Ouma and Oupa to step in front of the camera. Those photographs hold a special place in my heart.

I often tell my clients that while we usually book family photos for today, "we're really creating them for tomorrow"

Life is precious. Time moves quickly. Children grow. Hair turns grey. Loved ones become cherished memories.

Photographs become one of the few things that allow us to revisit those moments, relive those smiles, and remember exactly how it felt to be surrounded by the people we love most.

That is why I will always encourage families to include the grandparents whenever possible. One day, these photographs won't just be beautiful portraits, they'll become priceless heirlooms.

"Every photograph tells a story... but every photographer has one too."

People often ask me how I do it all.

The truth?
I don't.

Some days I'm answering emails between meetings. Some days I'm editing long after everyone else has gone to bed. Some days my camera bag lives in my car because life is beautifully busy.

I'm a full-time Personal Assistant, a wife, a mum to four wonderfully busy little humans... and the heart behind Embark Photography.

Embark Photography was born in 2015, not from a business plan, but from a love for people and the moments that deserve to be remembered.

When I'm behind my camera, I'm exactly where I'm meant to be.

Photography has never been about perfectly posed pictures for me.

It's about the giggles that happen unexpectedly.
The tiny hands reaching for Mom.
The proud smiles.
The quiet glances between two people who love each other.
The laughter that fills the space between the poses.

Those are the moments that become priceless with time.

If you've ever had a session with me, you'll know that making you feel comfortable is just as important to me as delivering beautiful photographs. From the moment we first connect, to the final gallery landing in your inbox, my hope is that you feel seen, at ease, and genuinely cared for.

I'm probably not the photographer who'll have you standing stiffly in the perfect pose for hours.

I'll be the one chatting to your toddler about dinosaurs (or unicorns), making silly noises behind my camera, fixing a stray hair without saying a word, celebrating the real smiles, and quietly capturing the little moments in between.

Those are usually the photographs that become your favorites.

I could count every photo I deliver...But I don't.

If it's a beautiful image that tells your story, you're getting it. I've never been very good at choosing "just enough." Those extra photographs are simply my way of saying thank you for trusting me with your memories.

Every family, every couple, every newborn, every smash cake, every milestone... each one becomes a chapter in someone else's story, and I never take that privilege lightly.

“Friends are the family we choose for ourselves.”

Every now and then, there is a photoshoot that means a little more. This was one of those sessions.

I have had the absolute privilege of having Magda in my life for the past 10 years. The funny thing is, I met her on paper before I ever met her in person—and little did I know then that I was about to gain one of life's greatest gifts: a friend who would become family.

Over the years, we've shared countless memories, celebrations, challenges, tears, laughter, and so many conversations that have shaped our friendship. She is one of those rare people who leaves every room, every workplace, and every heart a little better than she found it. An absolute gem in every sense of the word.

Recently, Magda made the decision to relocate back to South Africa, and while I know this is an exciting new chapter for her, I can honestly say that she will be deeply missed. She leaves behind a space that simply cannot be filled.

But this wasn't a "goodbye". It was simply a "See you soon." Because friendships like ours don't fade with distance. They grow stronger through shared memories, late-night phone calls, unexpected visits, and the comfort of knowing that no matter where life takes us, some people will always feel like home.

Magda, thank you for ten years of friendship, kindness, encouragement, and unwavering support. I wish you nothing but happiness and every success as you begin this next adventure.

Namibia won't be quite the same without you, but I have no doubt you'll leave the same beautiful mark wherever you go.

Some birthday sessions stay with you long after you've packed away the camera, and this was definitely one of them.

When Alicia first reached out to me with her vision to celebrate her 35th birthday, I knew it was going to be something special. This wasn't just about marking another year, it was about celebrating the journey. The personal challenges, lessons, growth, and experiences that shaped her into the incredible woman she is today. It was about coming through the other side stronger, wiser, and ready to embrace this next chapter.

What was meant to be a quick half studio session quickly turned into a full creative experience. We experimented with some fun new lighting techniques (which also gave me the perfect excuse to invest in a new studio light toy!), and together we created images that were every bit as bold and beautiful as the woman standing in front of the camera.

The funny thing is, the first time Alicia and I met in person was the day of the shoot. Within minutes, it felt like we'd known each other for years. She arrived with her hair and makeup beautifully done, looking absolutely stunning, while her sweet husband was there every step of the way—offering moral support and capturing behind-the-scenes moments with his camera.
One of the highlights for me was stepping behind the scenes myself and helping Alicia bring her birthday video idea to life for her social media. I absolutely loved being part of her creative vision.

I can honestly say I loved every single minute we spent together in the studio.

I've always believed that every birthday deserves to be celebrated, not just the milestone ones. Every year tells a story. Every candle represents memories made, lessons learned, and another chapter worth celebrating.

So here's your reminder: celebrate yourself. Celebrate how far you've come. Celebrate the person you're becoming. Because every birthday is a gift.

We recently celebrated Milandra's 2nd birthday with the cutest little confetti, balloons, and doughnuts-themed studio session, and what a fun afternoon it was!

Little Milandra is an absolute firecracker — full of personality, curiosity, and the sweetest expressions. She kept us entertained throughout the session and embraced all the birthday fun with her own unique charm.

The Tripodi family are certainly not strangers in front of my lens, and it is always such a pleasure to capture another milestone in their family's story. One of my favourite parts of photography is watching little ones grow from one session to the next, and Milandra is no exception.

Between the colorful confetti, delicious doughnuts, and plenty of smiles, we captured some beautiful memories to celebrate turning two.

“Though she be but little, she is fierce.”

One of the little perks of being a photographer and having access to a studio is that every now and then, I get to make use of my own services too.

We recently did the sweetest little birthday session for my 2nd born fiery and spirited redhead warrior princess who is about to turn 4 years old. This little firecracker has truly been such a joy, turning our world upside down in the very best way possible and constantly keeping all of us on our toes.

Although she can sometimes be a little shy at first, once she warms up to you, she becomes the biggest little chatterbox with the sweetest personality. Her laughter, strong will, and vibrant spirit make every day an adventure.

Some of you may know that I am also a full-time working mommy of four, and while photography is something I absolutely love, making time for family and creating memories with my own little people will always mean just as much to me. Sometimes the photographer deserves to step into the memories too.
