Early September took me back behind the lens for something I haven't photographed in quite a few years....a Matric Farewell!

Now, I don't do these very often, but Lynn (Caitlyn's mom) was twisted my arm, and I'm so glad she did! She reached out earlier in the year to secure Caitlyn's spot, and it turned out to be such a special day.

The January family are no strangers to me. Our boys are in the same grade and have shared a fair number of get-togethers over the years, so being invited to capture such an important milestone for Caitlyn felt extra special.

I had the pleasure of spending most of the day with her. From the final touches of hair and make-up, to getting dressed and those first few moments of seeing the whole look come together. And breathtaking is an understatement!

We then headed off to The Stellenbosch Restaurant at Bougainvillea to capture some beautiful portraits before returning home, where Caitlyn could meet and greet some of her extended family and share the excitement of her special evening.

The photographs turned out beautifully, but what made the day even more rewarding was seeing just how happy Caitlyn was with them. And honestly, that is what makes my heart happy too.

A Matric Farewell is so much more than a beautiful dress, hair and make-up. It's a celebration of everything that has brought a young woman to this moment, and a glimpse of all the possibilities waiting ahead.

Lynn, thank you for twisting my arm and trusting me to capture these memories. And Caitlyn, you were an absolute dream to photograph. May this next chapter be every bit as beautiful as you looked that day.

“Sixteen is the age where childhood memories meet the dreams of the woman you're becoming.”

Although Andriette celebrated her 16th birthday back in June, we had to wait until exams were out of the way before we could finally get her into the studio and in front of my lens. And let me tell you, she was absolutely worth the wait!

Jean, Andriette's mom, and I work together, and it made me feel so special when she asked me to capture this milestone for her daughter. We've been trying to coordinate a session for the longest time, so finally making it happen was extra special!

Andriette is such a sweetheart, beautifully mannered, gentle, and just so pretty. There's a lovely shyness about her that peeks through in some of the photographs, and I think that's part of what makes them so special. Not every beautiful portrait needs a big smile or a confident pose. Sometimes, it's those quiet, natural moments that capture the heart of a person best.

Sweet sixteen only comes around once, and I'm so grateful I got to capture a little piece of this chapter for Andriette and her family.

Jean, thank you for trusting me with these memories. It was such a privilege to finally make this session happen!

New beginnings. Growth. Confidence. And embracing the skin you're in.

Some shoots are extra special, not only because of the beautiful images we create, but because of the person standing in front of my lens.

Karin and I go way back to before 2008 and I have such a special place in my heart for this amazing woman.

Karin has embarked on an exciting new chapter with a new location and fresh brand identity for Oukolele - Wellness with Soul. What better way to celebrate new beginnings than with a little refresh in front of the camera?

Now, if you know Karin, you'll know that being in front of the lens isn't exactly her favorite place to be! But sometimes, all it takes is a little encouragement, the right setting, and a reminder of just how beautiful you are to create something truly lovely.

“Behind every photograph is a person. A heart. A story. And a life happening outside the frame.”

A little reminder from behind the camera… Lately, I've been a little quiet on this side of Embark Photography.

The galleries are still being edited. The photographs are still being delivered. The beautiful moments are still being captured. But the social media posts? Well… they're a little behind.

And the truth is, life has been lifing...and hard

It's been a season of full calendars, long to-do lists, family life, work, motherhood, photography, and trying to give a little piece of myself to all the things and people that matter to me.

Some days, I feel like I'm keeping all the balls in the air. Other days, I'm just grateful if I haven't dropped too many. But somewhere between being a mom of four, showing up for my day job, running Embark, and all the beautiful chaos in between, I've been reminded of something important.

The person behind the camera is human, too.

I have days when I'm tired. Days when my inbox feels a little overwhelming. Days when editing takes longer than I'd planned, or when the list of things I still need to do seems to grow faster than I can tick them off.

I have a family who needs me, a home that doesn't run itself, a business that I care deeply about, and a life that doesn't pause just because there's work to be done.

And sometimes, I need to give myself the same grace that I so easily offer to others.

Because here's the thing… I LOVE what I do. Truly.

I love meeting new families and welcoming familiar faces back in front of my camera. I love the little personalities, the shy smiles, the wild toddlers, the proud parents, the grandparents who want everyone together, and the moments that unfold when people forget about the camera and simply are.

I love that you trust me with your memories. That you invite me into your homes, your celebrations, your milestones and your stories. That, years from now, the photographs we create together might mean even more to you than they do today. That will never be something I take for granted.

But I am also learning that loving what you do doesn't mean you can do everything, all the time, without ever feeling tired or overwhelmed and being passionate about your business doesn't mean you're superhuman.

Sometimes, the photographs get posted weeks after the session. Sometimes, the behind-the-scenes updates are quiet while the work continues. Sometimes, I'm working away in the background, doing my very best to make sure that the memories you've entrusted to me receive the time, care and attention they deserve.

So, if you've been waiting to see your session shared here, if you've noticed that I've been a little quieter than usual, or if you're one of the wonderful people who has sent a message and is patiently waiting for a reply…

Thank you. For your patience. For your kindness. For your understanding. And for continuing to support this little business of mine.

Every enquiry, every booking, every referral, every kind word and every returning family means more to me than you probably realise.

Embark has been part of my life since 2015, and it has grown alongside me through so many different seasons. And while I may not always get everything done as quickly as I'd like, I promise that the heart behind it is still the same. To capture your moments. To tell your story. To preserve the little pieces of life that you never want to forget.

Because we usually book family photos for today, but we're really creating them for tomorrow.

So here's to giving ourselves a little more grace. To remembering that we're all carrying things we don't always share. And to choosing a little kindness, both for others and for ourselves.

“Little boys may grow too big for your lap, but they will never outgrow the special place they hold in your heart.”

Two the Moon!

A little late sharing this one, but August was all about celebrating a very special little boy, Connor, who turned TWO!

I first met Connor’s mommy, Alison, and their beautiful family towards the end of 2025 when we celebrated her mother-in-law’s milestone birthday with a combination family and studio shoot. There was one of those instant connections, and I just knew I would be seeing the Constable family again soon. And how special it was to welcome them back to celebrate another beautiful milestone!

Little Connor’s second birthday called for a Two the Moon themed cake smash and family shoot, and this little champ absolutely stole the show!

Despite battling a sudden cold just two days before our session, Connor pulled through and gave us his very best smiles. With tissues close at hand, plenty of love, and his special people by his side, we made some beautiful memories together.

Having both his Oumas, his Dada, his uncle and aunty there to celebrate made the occasion even more special. These are the moments that make family photography so meaningful — not just the birthday cake and the milestone, but the people who gather around a little boy to remind him just how loved he is.

What a lovely little boy you are, Connor! May you always reach for the moon, dream big, and know just how loved you are.

And from my side, a little confession… my social media updates have been super slow lately! It's been a crazy busy season for Embark Photography, but one I am incredibly grateful for. So, thank you for your patience while I catch up on sharing all these beautiful moments.

Here's to two years of Connor, a lifetime of adventures, and memories that will last far beyond the birthday candles.

“A little girl is a bundle of sunshine, laughter and dreams wrapped up in a tiny package.”

Back in August, I had the sweetest little lady in my studio for her 2nd birthday “Pretty in Pink” mini session.

Little Chaya is just the sweetest, those big blue eyes, that beautiful big smile, and the kind of little personality that makes it impossible not to smile right along with her.

We spent a little time celebrating her and turning the studio into a pretty-in-pink birthday dream, but of course we couldn't let the opportunity pass without capturing a few precious moments with her baby brother too.

There is something so special about photographing siblings together, especially when one is still so little. One day these photographs will be a beautiful reminder of just how tiny they both once were and the beginning of their journey together as brother and sister.

Happy 2nd birthday, sweet Chaya! May you always keep that beautiful smile, those sparkling blue eyes and that sweet little spirit.

There are some families you photograph… and then there are families who feel a little bit like your own.

I have a little bit of history with this beautiful couple, and getting to capture Zaandre and Matt in this season of their lives, now with their precious baby Jean, was something truly special.

There is so much love in this home. The kind that doesn’t need to be posed or directed. It’s in the way Mom and Dad look at their baby, in the little everyday moments, and even in the beautiful chaos that comes with a new baby.

And, of course, we couldn’t leave out furry baby Oreo! She was VERY excited to be part of the shoot and brought all of her wonderfully energetic personality along with her.

These are the moments I love capturing most — real connection, real love and the beautiful little pieces of everyday life that you’ll one day look back on and wish you could hold onto forever.

Newborn photography doesn’t always have to mean a studio, elaborate setups or perfectly posed photographs. Sometimes it’s simply you, your baby and your life together. A slow morning at home. Tiny cuddles on the couch. Dad holding baby. Mom soaking in those newborn moments. Your furry family member trying to get involved. The little details that make your family yours.

There is something incredibly special about photographing a couple as they step into the beautiful, sometimes overwhelming, and completely life-changing adventure of becoming parents for the first time.

Little Elian recently made his way into the Embark Photography studio for his newborn session, and what a precious little boy he is!

This session actually came about thanks to Ronel, the very proud Ouma, who reached out to me because she wanted to make sure some special memories of her first grandchild were captured. And let me tell you… Ouma Ronel had everything organized!

She made sure her son Magnus and his lovely wife Amia arrived at the studio with their beautiful little boy, ready to capture this incredibly special chapter of their lives.

For Magnus and Amia, these are the very first pages of their story as Mom and Dad. For Ronel, they are the first precious memories of becoming a grandmother. And for little Elian, these photographs will one day tell him just how loved he was from the very beginning.

Newborn days are fleeting. Those tiny fingers, sleepy stretches, little noises and the way they fit so perfectly into your arms change far too quickly.

This is why I love what I do. We aren't just taking pretty photographs. We're preserving the beginning of a family's story and memories that will become even more precious as the years go by.

“The greatest gift we can give our children is a way to remember where they came from.”

It was so lovely welcoming the Krause family back in front of my lens once again. There is something incredibly special about photographing families over the years and watching little ones grow with each new chapter.

This time we enjoyed a relaxed studio half session, and of course, the little boys stole the show! Watching their personalities shine through was such a reminder of how quickly childhood passes us by.

One of my favourite parts of this session was that we also invited Ouma and Oupa to step in front of the camera. Those photographs hold a special place in my heart.

I often tell my clients that while we usually book family photos for today, "we're really creating them for tomorrow"

Life is precious. Time moves quickly. Children grow. Hair turns grey. Loved ones become cherished memories.

Photographs become one of the few things that allow us to revisit those moments, relive those smiles, and remember exactly how it felt to be surrounded by the people we love most.

That is why I will always encourage families to include the grandparents whenever possible. One day, these photographs won't just be beautiful portraits, they'll become priceless heirlooms.

"Every photograph tells a story... but every photographer has one too."

People often ask me how I do it all.

The truth?
I don't.

Some days I'm answering emails between meetings. Some days I'm editing long after everyone else has gone to bed. Some days my camera bag lives in my car because life is beautifully busy.

I'm a full-time Personal Assistant, a wife, a mum to four wonderfully busy little humans... and the heart behind Embark Photography.

Embark Photography was born in 2015, not from a business plan, but from a love for people and the moments that deserve to be remembered.

When I'm behind my camera, I'm exactly where I'm meant to be.

Photography has never been about perfectly posed pictures for me.

It's about the giggles that happen unexpectedly.
The tiny hands reaching for Mom.
The proud smiles.
The quiet glances between two people who love each other.
The laughter that fills the space between the poses.

Those are the moments that become priceless with time.

If you've ever had a session with me, you'll know that making you feel comfortable is just as important to me as delivering beautiful photographs. From the moment we first connect, to the final gallery landing in your inbox, my hope is that you feel seen, at ease, and genuinely cared for.

I'm probably not the photographer who'll have you standing stiffly in the perfect pose for hours.

I'll be the one chatting to your toddler about dinosaurs (or unicorns), making silly noises behind my camera, fixing a stray hair without saying a word, celebrating the real smiles, and quietly capturing the little moments in between.

Those are usually the photographs that become your favorites.

I could count every photo I deliver...But I don't.

If it's a beautiful image that tells your story, you're getting it. I've never been very good at choosing "just enough." Those extra photographs are simply my way of saying thank you for trusting me with your memories.

Every family, every couple, every newborn, every smash cake, every milestone... each one becomes a chapter in someone else's story, and I never take that privilege lightly.
