It was our 3rd time in Japan, and this was our first time seeing the cherry blossoms. This Japanese White-eye, also called "Mejiro", was one of many others that were flitting about from between the flowering branches. The trees were literally alive with these tiny but energetic birds.

We were the only ones photographing the birds, while other people just snapped photos of the flowers without once observing the birds. Tried to crop this photo so that it looked more artsy, what do you think?

"Yep, we've never seen this bird before in our lives," we agreed as we looked up into the trees above us to spot these Azure-winged Magpies within the branches. They were foraging for food as a group, making distinct and unfamiliar noises. Their long tails caught our eye almost immediately, so despite the bad angle, we had to identify what bird it was!

Despite it not being our first time at this park, besides spotting the Long-tailed Tit this time round, this was another new bird species we didn't know existed! This beautiful bird was hanging around dozens of people, but not one stopped to look. Really goes to show what humans have been overlooking in life!

This encounter pleasantly surprised us in every way. We have seen the absolutely adorable Shima Enaga or Long-tailed Tit during our previous trip to Hokkaido. But spotting one in Tokyo was unexpected.

It is similar to the subspecies in Hokkaido such that it is fast, makes the same chittering sound, and is difficult to photograph (this may be the only proper photograph we took). But the difference is that it has the thick eyebrows that the all-white "Snow Fairy" doesn't have.

Learnt something new this trip, and wildlife photography keeps us so fascinated with nature. There's still so much we don't know!

Absolutely in love with the bokeh in this shot. This is the same Dusky Thrush from the previous post! Hope more people see us and not unfollow, especially when we are also trying out different things!

Much love and hope each and every one of you is well. 😊

Yo IG, fix your algorithm! Either our posts are being hidden, or people are taking breaks off Instagram.

This is the closest we have ever been to a Dusky Thrush. This bird was not afraid of crowds of people walking past it. It was busy pecking at the ground, and we took some photos when it stopped to pose for a few moments. Not sure what it was, but somehow, it became one of our favourite photos from the trip.

Spotted this Oriental Turtle Dove hiding behind some bushes, sheltering itself from the sun. Anyway, did not realize that now it has become one post per week, no idea where the time went! Been so busy with routine life, and Pokopia. IG reach has been quite horrible as well.

We don't really have many wildlife photos to post from our recent trip to Japan as it was mostly a trip for other purposes. But we definitely have more to share!

P.S. If you are interested in receiving happy mail from us featuring our wildlife photography and art, remember that we run Wild Mail Club and would love to have your support! This month, we launched a collectible card series in the mail club to share our wild encounters with people. Do check out our Etsy if you are interested!

There are more than 5k of you on here who have been through this wild journey with us, and if we haven't said it before, we can't thank you enough! May this month be a great one! ✨️

When patience pays off.

We waited for this Hooded Crane to stop grazing and step into this frame. There were only a few blooming flowers, but we managed to get this shot after finding the right line of sight.

Also chose the panoramic crop to show this magnificent bird in its habitat. Would also be a nice desktop wallpaper, don't you think?

Only people who love wildlife would understand when we say we flew to another country and drove for hours just to see a bird.

This is a Hooded Crane, a vulnerable species of crane. There are less than 12,000 individuals left in the world. Their breeding grounds are in China and Russia, they migrate to Japan during the winter. And most interestingly, 80% of their entire population migrates to this very spot at Izumi, Kyushu.

How amazing that they know how to find their way back to the exact same place every year!

Been so busy hence the huge gap between posts! IG's algorithm hasn't been kind lately too...

Anyway here is a Canvasback, a type of diving duck. We only photographed this one male that was hanging around with the other Common Pochards and Tufted Ducks. Its red eyes glinted in the sun as it stared at us.

If we haven't interacted much, hope everyone has been well!
