An instructor at the Leica Akademie, Oliver Richter is involved with courses focusing on picture composition; his main work, however, deals with all the outdoor workshops and experiential travel. Whenever he has a chance, he heads outdoors with a Leica S in his rucksack. Celebrating tradition with the Leica T. Awesome series by Chia Aik Beng.

Anyone who has tried to get upclose images of a traditional opera troupe in hope of a couple of portraits would know, it is a task that is almost impossible.

Their personas onstage have been fiercely guarded by the performers themselves.

Today, we are privileged to be able to get a glimpse of their portraits through the eyes of a Leica T. Leica Camera is extremely pleased to be able to share the story here by Aik Beng.

Lao Sai Tao Yuan, the only group that has survived all these years, formed in early 19th century, it is the oldest remaining Teochew Opera in Singapore.

The eye is captured by performers on a brightly lit stage in full costume, beautified with bright shades of thick make-up and donned in luminous and over the top costumes that match and mesmerize.

Using Leica T with LEICA SUMMICRON-T 23 mm f/2 ASPH connected wirelessly to Leica T app on my iPhone to capture these 6th generation portraits that are inspired by a curiosity to meet these people who put on these otherworldly personas by night, but are just like you and me in the day.
